Just so. Opening your eyes is all that is needing. The heart lies and the head plays tricks with us, but the eyes see true. Look with your eyes. Hear with your ears. Taste with your mouth. Smell with your nose. Feel with your skin. Then comes the thinking afterward, and in that way knowing the truth. ~ George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones)

On Monday, we ring in the New Moon in Gemini. The Moon makes a wide square to Neptune, just further emphasizing the Neptunian influence for much of this coming month. During Neptune periods we can feel as if so much is out of our control. Neptune has domain over the unseen worlds and dimensions, as well as those things that we cannot (or will not) see in our own material lives. This can lead to feelings of confusion, indecision or ambiguity. At its extreme Neptune can leave us feeling deceived or led astray. Neptune feels more comfortable int he ethereal, psychic and imaginary realms. Even the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the New Moon refers to: The revelation of unconscious energies and submerged psychic structures. It will be all we can do to come up for air.

However, Mercury is still strong in the last degrees of its own sign of Gemini, at the time of the New Moon. This is a reminder to pay attention to our senses: both our physical as well as our intuitive senses in this case. This will help us to clarify what we are truly seeing and hearing. And ultimately believing. Our minds are obscured by our beliefs, by society, by our culture and habits and assumptions. But the pure aspect of our mind is something more than this, it is far more vast, and with greater potential than we can possibly imagine. And if we were to question even a single paradigm, the ripples and consequences of that mental shift could be revolutionary.

The mind is pure and luminous by nature. It is defiled only by adventitious thoughts and emotions. ~ Buddha

New Moons are times to sow intentions, embark on new beginnings. Make new starts. However it may be difficult to see the ramifications of our efforts with Neptune clouding the picture. We may not have all the information we need. We may be told to wait and see. Or we may even be misinformed. So in some ways, we are being asked to proceed on faith. Neptune can increase insecurity through apprehension and fear of the Unknown and the Unseen. We are being asked to be present with ambiguity, even f that means accepting what is being brought to you, trusting that it will take you where you need to go, even if it doesn’t look like it at first.

Gemini topics:

Communications: language, words, learning to speak to count, to make sense of our environments: our early learning environment; how and with whom we learn: our siblings, our classmates, our neighbors, our cousins. Processing information, but also having something to say about it.

Curiosity: wanting to learn, to understand, to engage with the world. This can devolve into distraction, gossip and wasteful and time consuming activities; or it can lead to engagement.

Cultivating the mind: taking control over our own minds: developing our minds. What holds our attention: watching TV; social media; Developing specific skills, and increasing our knowledge.

Skills: Gemini has domain over the hands and arms, and is about the development of skillful means. This includes reading and writing.

Time: managing time; having a schedule and keeping it; appointments, social calendars, and knowing how to navigate these. Train schedules and road maps all fall under Gemini.

Movement: Gemini is symbolic of that time in our youth when we go out into our immediate world, make friends, go to school. This sense of mobility expands to the idea of walking, sightseeing, traveling: bicycling, short road trips, and cars.
