“Taurus” by Johfra Bosschart
Be always calm, my child. Keep yourself quiet and in restraint, reserve your energies, doing those little things that lie in your way, each one as well as you can, saving your strength, so that when God does call you to do something good and great you will not have wasted your forces and strength with useless strivings, but will be ready to do the work quickly and well - go slowly, my child, and keep ready. ~ Clara Barton
There is often an urge to slow down in Taurus season: smell the earth, watch the grass grow, hear the music in the birdsong. And this year is no less. Feel your feet firmly planted on the ground, knowing who and what supports you, keeps you safe, and holds you. We often speak of the sign’s simplicity. But it is its capacity to hold us, both with its strength, but also its reliability, that allows us to settle into that nest of safety and security. And just like the Earth itself, this most earthy of the earth signs, reminds us that although life will change, and so shall we, there are those things that persist even if and when we are gone. And there is a certain assurance in knowing this to be true.
This year the New Moon falls at the later degrees of Taurus, at 25º Taurus 58’. Shortly after the New Moon, Mercury and then the Sun will enter Gemini, where everything is rocking and rolling with the planet Uranus. And so the advice from Clara Barton seems very valid for right now. Lean into the New Moon in Taurus with quiet and restraint, because we are going to need to reserve whatever energy we have, for the days that will be following. And the New Moon can serve as our anchor.
The New Moon in Taurus asks us all to lean into the natural rhythms of our lives in order to be better able to bear with and cope with what comes next. Bring more Taurus into your life this weekend: escape from the hubbub of the world if only for a moment. Feel the Sun on your face, the soft sounds of nature. Indulge your senses and your desires. Find solace and peace where it grows. For we are on the cusp of change, and things could move quite quickly now that Uranus is at the bending of the Nodes. And we will need to be well rested and fortified.
We will speak more to this next week, but know that when major planets such as Uranus come to the bendings of the Nodal Eclipse points, it feels like we are between two points in our lives. Two worlds. Illuminating and sometimes surprising, the Sun and Mercury joining Uranus here can make this more personal, as we share information with one another, disclose truths, and learn things that we had not previously known. It shifts our perceptions, and can serve as turning points in our lives.
The New Moon in Taurus can prepare us to make the right sorts of decisions, by connecting with our most heartfelt priorities. It is a Moon that we can use to ground ourselves, create ballast and greater security in our lives. New Growth. New Life. New seeds of potential can arise out of the New Moon in Taurus.
The New Moon falls on Saturday, May 16th at 4:01 pm here on the East Coast of the United States (1:01 pm Pacific Time; 9:01 pm British Time). If you wish to make intentions with the New Moon in Taurus, do so after the New Moon, but before the Crescent Moon on Tuesday the 19th. The Moon will be at its greatest potential in the first 5 hours after the New Moon, while it is still in Taurus, but before it goes void of course. But the whole New Moon phase of this Lunar Cycle is rich with potential.
Some possible intentions or affirmations to sow with the New Moon in Taurus might be:
May I walk with music and beauty in my heart and mind.
May I find that sacred space that grounds me with the profound feeling of inner peace and serenity.
May I discover the joy of giving and receiving with an open heart.
I am worthy of the bounty that the natural world has to offer.
May I discover the most effective ways of using my strengths and talents.
May I recognize the beauty that can be found in the simple things of life, good food, pleasant surroundings and good company.
I want to see myself spending more time enjoying those things that bring me peace and happiness.
Please dear mother Earth, Help me to stand firm on my own two feet, Drawing on the solid earth below me, Help me to know the constancy of your strength, the power that is you, oh dear mother earth, Help me to walk with the blood of rivers in my veins, and the dark crumbling soil of earth in my flesh, Let my muscles be strong as the tree trunks that rise up out of your belly, To dance in the sky and sing praises to the life all around, Beating, pulsing, rich and full, with your sweet sure energy. Oh dear mother earth, Live in this body today. ~ Stephanie Kaza
