New Moon in an Abundance of Aries

April 17th ~ 24th

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

On Friday, April 17th, we have a super-charged New Moon in Aries. If we count the centaur Chiron, there will be a total of 7 planets and luminaries in the sign of Aries. 8 if you throw in Mars’s sister Eris. That’s an abundance of Aries, just searing with new beginnings, high octane energy and zest. For many it will be motivating and energizing. And for some it will fill you with an abundance of aggravation and impatience. But for others, it could feel abundantly exhausting, and a tad too much in general. You can only go so fast for so long before you find yourself burning out.

That being said, if we were to channel even an iota of this fiery stellium, it can move mountains, attain personal bests, and finally give you the momentum to let go of the safety of the shore you’ve been holding on to. Aries gives us the motivation to take the steps that will allow us to enter the life that is waiting for us. Aries is a sign of new beginnings. Of the promise of potential, and the courage to go out and meet that potential where it is.

The New Moon is within a degree of the centaur Chiron, which first entered Aries in 2018. For the past 8 years that Chiron has been in Aries we have been asked to release old soul contracts that had been limiting us, and were no longer valid. That includes releasing old patterns and soul contracts such as sacrificing your own needs in order to make others happy and not rock the boat (the wound of martyrdom); or devaluing your own self-worth (the wound of poverty); or putting aside your own destiny in order to fit in (the fear and shame of ostracism and isolation). Chiron in Aries was showing us that we are allowed to take up space, and that self-care, self-healing and self-protection is not selfish.

The New Moon conjunct Chiron in Aries, with this huge stellium in Aries behind it, is reminding us to have the courage to be ourselves in a world that is constantly trying to make us something other than who we are. Don’t worry about what others think. Aries does not care. There’s nothing selfish about giving yourself enough space for self care. Because if you are able to take care of your own needs, if you can live your life according to your own terms, then you will have so much more available to give to others.

With this abundance of Aries at the threshold of the New Moon there could be the inclination to want to scrap everything and start all over again. The key here is about getting back on the track that you were meant to be on all along. The New Moon provides the courage to take that first step. And that is true even if you have no idea what waits for you on the other side.

Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point. ~ C.S. Lewis

The ruling planet of Aries, Mars, is amongst the throngs occupying Aries at the New Moon. Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn, Neptune, Chiron and Mars all in the martial sign of Aries. Motivated. Courageous. Enthusiastic. Mars in Aries wants everything done yesterday.

Just a few days after the New Moon, Mars, Saturn and Mercury converge for a triple conjunction at about 8º of Aries. With all of this Aries infiltrating our lives it is imperative to discriminate between assertion vs. aggression. Mars/Saturn/Mercury not only brings us the courage to take action, but the perseverance and determination to persist even in the face of resistance, obstacles and delays that seem to keep getting in the way.

Mars/Saturn weather can sometimes feel as if we are being stopped in our tracks. The response (Mercury/Saturn) may not be what we hope for. But know that Aries doesn’t care. If they can’t go around the obstacle, Mars in Aries will just climb right over it. If they can’t get things moving yesterday, they will persist until it does move.

Mercury/Saturn can sometimes feel as if they are not being heard, or are being ignored. The calls are not returned. The answers never arrive. Aries is not patient. But what this same combination can bring is the sort of focus and drive that allows us to move those mountains, run that marathon, and construct the winning hand out of plain cloth, when all else fails.

This is indomitable energy. Made all the more so because all three planets are also sextile Pluto. This is Aries on a mission. And lord help the fool who stands in the way.

This is a Moon about rebuilding, getting second chances, and reinventing ourselves and our lives all over again if necessary. It dares us to take on challenges that require focus, determination and a strong will. The influence of Pluto can make us feel as if we are on a mission. And if you were to have your own mission statement, what might that be? What sort of person are you aspiring to be? In what ways do you want to grow and/or evolve? Use this Moon to set the intention to do so. It is powerful and forward moving.

The New Moon on Friday is an excellent Moon to work with if you are wanting to start something new, reinvest an intention, a venture, an initiative with some super charged Aries energy. If you wish to set intentions or make affirmations with the New Moon, do so after the New Moon on April 17th, (7:51 am EDT; 4:51 AM PDT; and 12:51 PM British Time); and thru the Crescent Moon on the 20th of April.

The sign of Aries is a sign of new beginnings, eager and ready to get going. It is especially good for doing things that we need to do ourselves, under our own steam. Great for competitions, or things that require physical energy and initiative. Aries can bring us the motivation to do things that we normally would not have the courage, daring or energy to be bothered with. So lace up those running shoes, it’s time to get moving.

Today is the first day of the rest of our lives, may we greet it with enthusiasm and an open heart.

Some possible intentions or affirmations for the New Moon in Aries might be:

  • In life there are no problems, only challenges to be faced and overcome.

  • I trust my instincts to bring me where I need to be.

  • I am filled with the courage and strength to take on even the most daunting of challenges.

  • I embrace new beginnings with anticipation and eagerness to get started.

  • May I embody the spirit of a warrior hero, rushing headlong into life.

  • I have faith in my ability to take the initiative, putting all doubts aside.
