Saturn sextile Pluto March 28th
Reason, ruling alone, is a force confining; and passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction. Therefore let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion, that it may sing; And let it direct your passion with reason, that your passion may live through its own daily resurrection, and like the phoenix rise above its own ashes. ~ Kahlil Gibran
Way back in January 2020, on the eve of the pandemic, we had a major conjunction (a meeting of minds) between Saturn and Pluto. Conjunctions occur when two planets are in the same degree of a sign. When this occurs the two planets attempt to combine their qualities, morphing them into a whole new entity that sets the tone for a new cycle to come. Saturn and Pluto have this distinction of both being associated with things like fear and suffering. In this case, the fear (Saturn) of death (Pluto) and annihilation. What followed was the pandemic.
Saturn and Pluto both also have an association with power: who holds the power, how it is used, what they do with it. In the sign of Capricorn, which is where they were in 2020, the power is found concentrated at the top, with leaders, conglomerates, things like corporations, and monopolies. Concentrated power. Saturn/Pluto were asking: who is going to be wielding this power? And how are they/we going to hold on to it? For in the struggle of vying for power there can also be acts of desperation and ruthlessness. It’s a matter of survival. And that desperation becomes that much more ruthless when certain groups begin to realize that their power is slipping. They grasp for power like their very lives depend on it. And they will do anything to hold it.
Saturn/Pluto aspects are often game changers. Powers fall. Others emerge. But there is also a long game going on with Saturn and Pluto. As we well know, regime changes are not all that easy. But the most powerful changes are those that begin within. Not without. And this is what some of that fear is based on. Not about what Party has taken control, or who is the titular head. It’s about the ways that society is changing and evolving in their hearts and minds. And that’s something that cannot be tamped down with a boot heel, or a show of force. The fear of irrelevance can translate into acts of desperation and force. But will they win?
The current Saturn/Pluto cycle began in January of 2020, just as the pandemic was beginning to spread. On January 19th of 2025, it’s first major test occurred when the two planets formed a semi-square. That was just one day before the presidential inauguration. For some that day felt like validation. But for others it felt like imminent destruction. But within that period in which seeds were being sown, some were being cultivated and others ignored. But there weren’t only seeds of destruction being sown over those few years. For Saturn/Pluto are not just about tearing down institutions and governments and values. There is also an underlying long game being played out.
There is something very karmic about these Saturn/Pluto cycles where we come face to face with our worst fears and self-inflicted pain. The dark underbelly rises to the surface and we are forced to face it without denial, and once and for all. For these cycles are also about long-term and major commitments to transforming our lives for the better. From the inside out. It begins internally, and then gradually transforms the outer circumstances of our lives.
It’s not easy. Neither Saturn nor Pluto are easy planets to deal with. Together they force us to deal with some deeply embedded habits, and beliefs, and assumptions that are difficult to undo. Like a resurrection these planets can work together to rebuild the structures of our lives in a better, stronger, and more reliable manner. That includes changing the hard stuff that we assumed would never change or could never change.
This week Saturn and Pluto are making an ‘easy’ sextile to one another in which they search for common ground and solutions. Because these planets are finding something of a detente within the sextile aspect, rather than being dissuaded by fears and old demons, they are asking us to channel their powerful capacity for transformation within our lives.
Saturn/Pluto people are the survivors. These are the ones who can overcome even the most challenging of obstacles, live to tell the tale, and can even change the world they live in. And now we are being given a snippet of that powerful resolve. There is great force in this transit. Therefore respect it and use it wisely to make the sorts of changes in your life that will allow you to make whatever changes are needing to be made, in order to be the better able to take hold of the reins of our lives and even our destiny.
Because of the karmic nature of both of these planets, they afford us the opportunity to bring ourselves and our lives more in alignment with that which we perceive to be our calling, our destiny and our true purpose. There is a sense of dedication that comes when Saturn and Pluto work together in common cause. A sense of dedication, purpose and resolve. So whether you use that energy to improve your own health or well-being, embark on a major renovation, or to pursue your own calling, this is a wonderful transit to chart out a plan of action that you know you can work with for years to come.
The Full Moon in Libra
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. ~ Kahlil Gibran
On March 18th we had a New Moon in the very last degrees of Pisces, in which we were being asked to slough off old patterns, old wistful fantasies that are no longer valid, and perhaps never were, which in turn might allow us to make room for new and better ways of relating and connecting with one another. New seeds were being sown within the potential of the New Moon in Pisces, asking us to look at things from another perspective, perhaps even going off in a new direction. To try new things. Meet new people. And bring closure to those things that are not as relevant as they used to be.
On March 25th the first quarter moon, in the sign of Cancer was asking us to trust our feelings, and what they were trying to tell us. Where did you see your heart turning, and to whom? Who are those that matter most to you, who inhabit both your sleeping and waking dreams? Who are the people of your heart?
Full Moons are times of culmination. They bring confirmation, but they can also bring closure and endings. They reveal things. The room we were making with the New Moon. All of those feelings and emotions that were being gathered together at the Pisces New Moon and the Cancer first quarter moon are now coming to fruition, and informing all of our relationships.
The Full Moon in Libra puts all of our important relationships on display. Are our expectations of each other being met? Are our feelings being consummated? With a minor aspect to Uranus, there may be a few surprising turns. And with a major aspect to Jupiter, our feelings about these could feel larger than life. Emotions come to the surface when the moon is full. Declarations are made. People speak their truth. And we see each other as we are.
As a result the Full Moon in Libra can be a turning point in some of the important relationships in our lives. Alliances can shift in this weather. Agreements can be reconsidered. And commitments are questioned. But also know that when the Moon is Full what was previously hidden from view, makes itself known. And as a result of what we see, what we witness, and now know, things change.
On March 30th, Venus the ruling planet of this month’s Full Moon enters the lush and verdant sign of Taurus. This is a sign of deep potential, faith and beauty. Called the Pink Moon, the April Full Moon is associated with when the trees begin to bloom, and shower us in their glory: the pale apple petals and pink cherry blossoms that a rebirth is in the process of ushering in this time of renewal. Our blooms are a little late this year in the Northeast, but the Full Moon serves as a reminder of the promise that this new season brings for that anticipatory need for Resurrection and Renewal.
Rather than being dissuaded by the fears and old demons that can hover about Saturn and Pluto transits, this week they are asking us to channel their powerful capacity for transformation within our personal lives. We can change habits, renovate a home, rebuild our lives, and find resurrection. All the more so in the light of the Full Pink Moon in Libra this week, which aims to restore the balance, and find peace. We could use quite a bit of that right now.
