.. what will be after heaven and earth and the whole world are burned? All the gods will be dead, together with the Einherjar and the whole of mankind. Didn’t you say earlier that each person will live in some world throughout all ages? ~ from the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning

After Mars entered the air sign of Aquarius last week 3 hurricanes were spawned, including massive Florence. Once Mars entered Aquarius it applied once again to a square to Uranus and tightened the conjunction with the South Node of the Moon. The strength of the hurricane has been gradually dissipating from a category 4 now down to a 2, but it is still potentially hazardous as rivers are overflowing and surges are rising.

And there are other storm systems gathering in the oceans. This is the peak of Hurricane and Typhoon season, and the Mars/Uranus square right on the Lunar Nodes seem to have an affinity for natural disasters. All we have to do is look at this past Summer following the volcanic eruptions in Hawaii and the fire storms that seemed to ravage the Earth around the Lunar Eclipse. The Earth is in a state of destabilization, and the wrathful gods are restless.

This is the 3rd time that Mars crossed this critical point. The Nodes are often associated with inevitable and karmic events that seemingly cannot be avoided. The South Node represents something of a clearing and release of energy, and Mars is only fanning the flames with violent and explosive events. This is further aggravated by the long-term square from unpredictable Uranus to the Nodes which lasts straight through to January of 2019. Mars is something of a catalyst, and coming back to the degree of last Summer’s Lunar Eclipse we are revisiting this theme of catastrophic weather events. Mars has domain over fire, and last Summer’s Mars/Uranus eclipse saw massive uncontrolled and deadly fires wreaking destruction in many parts of the world.

In the Norse allegory of Ragnorak, the gods fought to reverse the apocalypse in combat with the beastly enemies of mankind. Both the Hell Beings and the Gods were destroyed and banished to the Underworld at the end of this war, the land was inundated by the sea, and the Earth was encompassed by a black void. However this was not the end, for it is never the end. The Earth returned to form, and a new human pair were reborn along with the gods and their children. A new sun rose in the sky, and life returned once again. So it is always with these cycles of Life. Mars/Uranus transits are no exception.

The allegory of Ragnorak is an allegory about impermanence and change, which is also an allegory of the Mars/Uranus/Nodal square. Mars is often a catalyst for things that had been brewing. It is the match that lights the wick, the trigger to the flame. It is a time of change and instability, and all we can do is ride the wave. It also presents the opportunity to be able to create changes that we would like to see, and adjust to changes that have already occurred. We can also be apprised of changes that we had not been aware of. But what all the allegories indicate, is that each ending is always followed by a new beginning, an awakening with a new dawn of awareness.

Uranus square the Nodes is indicative of some sort of wake up call: a reckoning or awareness that can no longer be ignored. Uranus can be like a light bulb coming on in the room. It’s showing us the missed step on the path of our collective evolution. The last time Uranus was in Taurus there were a number of radical changes (both to the far right and the left) having to do with our relationship to ownership, property, and the economy. Both Fascism and the New Deal emerged out of the last Uranus in Taurus era. This time around may we strive to be on the right side of history, and create new paradigms that will only benefit the greater whole.

Jupiter and Pluto are still closely sextile, and pouring its grace on us all. There may be a few twists and turns ahead this week, and we would probably do well to be as flexible as possible in the event that there are sudden changes in plans. There are still strong learning moments to be had here, with opportunities for growth and the fulfillment of a larger vision. Jupiter/Pluto is strong in service to strong ethics and principles. If we dare to live according to our higher principles, and aim for the greater good, we can go far with this auspicious wave.
