March 9th ~ 16th
Joy is not in things; it is in us. ~ Richard Wagner
It can be said that nothing remains hidden for long when Jupiter is in Scorpio. And this has certainly felt true since Jupiter first entered this sign back in October. Scorpio, a sign of scandals, sexual indiscretion, and the abuse of power, is being brought to justice now that Jupiter is traveling here. On March (8th) 9th Jupiter stations retrograde. Whenever Jupiter stations, either retrograde or direct, it also makes a trine to the Sun, reinvesting hope and anticipation for our future aspirations. However, with the retrograde station, there can be this mixed blessing of anticipation and the withdrawal of promises at the same time.
It could simply be, that promises are unable to be fulfilled right away, and that there are other conditions to be met before we can proceed. Nonetheless, a retrograde Jupiter can be associated with this withdrawal of abundance, and the withdrawal of the immediate fulfillment of certain promises. Our attention is being turned away from fulfillment in the outer world, and directed back within to the source. If we think all of our happiness will be found in that chocolate cake, or getting that one job, or if only there was enough money, or some other outside condition, then we will never be truly happy. Happiness is not in these external things. We can get that perfect job, and yet still grow bored or dissatisfied with it over time, and then we’re not happy any more. As Richard Wagner points out: Joy is not in things; it is in us.
Jupiter is stirring up all this controversy in the outer world, making us all too aware of the immoral or unethical behaviors of others. When Jupiter stations retrograde we are being asked to connect with our own conscience, our own moral high ground. Not to judge others, so much as to reevaluate our own moral and ethical standards and expectations of ourselves. And so we are all being asked to do our own inventory at this time. Ask:
Am I living up to my own moral and ethical standards? Am I walking the walk, as well as talking the talk? Is this truly the path that I am supposed to be on? Am I keeping my priorities in order? What can I do differently in order to bring my life, or my behavior, more in alignment with my own standards and ideals? What is one thing about myself that I would really like to work on?
In this way, these 4-month periods every year, that Jupiter is retrograde, are integral to our own moral and spiritual development.
With the trine to the Sun in Pisces, we are being asked to consider a larger vision for the future. A means for improving ourselves and our lives. But first we are being asked to sit with that vision, making sure that this is truly the correct path for us, and that we are going to fulfill that journey in the right way, at the right time; allowing wisdom, ethical action, compassion and skillful means to be our guides along the way.
Knowing others is intelligence. Knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. ~ Lao Tzu
