August 18th ~ 25th
A lot of people resist transition and therefore never allow themselves to enjoy who they are. Embrace the change, no matter what it is; once you do, you can learn about the new world you’re in and take advantage of it. ~ Nikki Giovanni
The long awaited Great American Solar Eclipse is nigh, and here is what we know about it:
This is a Total Eclipse, meaning that in certain locations, the Moon will totally cover the Sun, bringing a few moments of complete darkness in the middle of the day. Its arc of total visibility is along a 70-mile wide, 3,000 mile long path beginning in the state of Oregon, and ending in South Carolina. Eclipse maps can be found on the nasa.gov site: <https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/eclipse-maps>. If you are along this arc, and wish to observe the eclipse, make sure that you do so safely. Here are some helpful tips from EarthSky News.
The Eclipse takes place on Monday, August 21st, at approximately 2:30 PM EDT on the East Coast and about 10:15 AM PDT on the West Coast. Time and Date have a calculator on their site: <https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in.html> that allows you to determine the exact time of the eclipse in your town. Hopefully the weather will cooperate!
Solar Eclipses are super-powered New Moons, associated with transitions and major turning points in our lives. Never is this more so than now, for those living in the U.S. We get at least two Solar Eclipses a year, but what makes this Eclipse so significant are all of the ties it has with the United States. To begin with, where the Eclipse is most visible, is also where it is most likely to have the most impact, and its path of visibility is exclusively crossing the United States from coast to coast. A second condition is whether or not it impacts on the chart of the Nation. In this case, the Eclipse directly opposes the Aquarius Moon in the Sibley chart, the most commonly used chart for the United States of America. A third condition is that it very strongly impacts the President’s chart in such a strongly significant way, that it is highly unlikely that his life will be quite the same again.
It is for this reason that many astrologers have been predicting President Trump’s political demise centering around this Eclipse on August 21st. It is closely aligned with his late Leo Ascendant and Mars, even while Saturn is stationing on his natal Moon and Lunar Eclipse. The current transiting Mars is also in Leo and quite close to this Eclipse, just as it was with the Lunar Eclipse on the 7th. And as I warned then about the transit of Mars to the eclipse point on August 13th: “truths are revealed, situations brought to a conclusion, conflicts brought to a head.” I also warned that the veil between the two eclipses is where “change, insanity and time warps converge and all we can do is walk through to the other side.” These events were not formed in a vacuum. Lunar Eclipses are times of crisis and culmination based on causes already sown.
Solar Eclipses, like the one coming up on Monday, can be New Beginnings often predicated on some very necessary ending. And as the President waffled about denouncing the racist atrocities of last week, we are beginning to see the rats jumping ship. This is not the only thing brewing here. A turning point is nigh. Traditionally this Nodal axis is and can be associated with the Fall of Kings and Leaders. Though it may not happen on this exact day, at this specific time, there is something significant already begun.
We might want to begin earlier this year, in May, when the Nodes of the Moon (the points where the eclipses occur) crossed the degree of Monday's eclipse. On May 9th, at the time that the Nodes were transitioning from Virgo/Pisces to Leo/Aquarius, the President fired James Comey, the director of the F.B.I., who was conducting an investigation into the interference of Russia in the United States elections. Only days later, Trump had a closed door meeting in the Oval Office of the White House with the Russian foreign minister and Ambassador. Then on May 17th, when the Nodes were exactly conjunct the eclipse point, Robert Mueller was named special counsel by the Justice Department to oversee the investigation into ties between Trump’s campaign and Russian officials. Since then Mueller has amassed a star-filled cadre of powerful lawyers to join his team.
It was also in May, that white supremacist Richard Spencer first demonstrated the removal of the statue of Robert E. Lee, in Charlottesville, which in turn launched the inspiration for last week’s violent demonstration. It was also in May that North Korea launched a successful missile test capable of traveling up to 4,000 km, far enough to hit Guam. The seeds were planted, and they have found fertile soil in which to grow, aided and abetted by a morally deficient leadership in the American administration.
The Solar Eclipse is in the fire sign of Leo and conjunct combustible Mars. There is a lot of fire invested in this Eclipse which is also exactly trine Uranus also in the fiery martian sign of Aries. Uranus is revelatory and enlightening. With the trine to the Eclipse the facades are pulled away, and it becomes evident that the Emperor has no Clothes. Although eclipses are always unpredictable and changeable, there are also a number of fortuitous signs mixed in with this eclipse, presenting sudden surprises and opportunities, as the universe is shifting, just enough, to make manifest our destiny.
This is why alchemy exists, the boy said. So that everyone will search for his treasure, find it, and then want to be better than he was in his former life. Lead will play its role until the world has no further need for lead; and then lead will have to turn itself into gold. That’s what alchemists do. They show that, when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too. ~ Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist)
The South Node represents where we individually and collectively have gone south. Often this is revealed to us through a series of events that show us where we are undermining our evolutionary growth. By contrast the North Node serves as a lodestar as to what we need to further develop. With the North Node in Leo we are being asked to honor our own sense of integrity, and not allow ourselves to be drawn along by the clamoring hordes. When the South Node in Aquarius goes horribly wrong we will see things like:
- Uncontrolled mobs and rioting hordes
- Ideological extremism and totalitarian fringe groups
- Fringe groups in general who feel disengaged, disenchanted and previously ignored
- Trending populist tides
- with the intention to force absolute concepts on others
The South Node in Aquarius points to the negative consequence of the group horde mentality. Humans have instinctual responses that can be exaggerated and exacerbated by group influences. What we may never think of doing as individuals, we are more likely to do as part of a group, because people tend to lose their usual inhibitions through the anonymity of the group. Group influences can be stabilizing such as when altruistic principles dominate the group behavior, as with peaceful movements. But if the group behavior is based on hatred and violence this becomes the trending motivation. We’ve seen evidence of this sort of mob mentality throughout history with lynchings and witch burnings, and religious extremism. We also saw it last week.
Through the North Node in Leo we are being asked to honor our own integrity and principles, and resist extreme rhetoric and ideology. In so doing we can then use our voices to set a positive example for others. At these times it is important to not only question immoral ideology, but to courageously and confidently speak out against it. With Mars currently traveling with the North Node in Leo this week, we are all being asked to consider what it means to do the right thing. Leo is a sign of Love. And in its highest expression, Leo is a sign of confidence, leadership and Dignity.
With the Solar Eclipse exactly trine Uranus, and Saturn trine the Nodes, we are being given the chance to learn from our past, and apply what we have learned in order to inform our future. Uranus is revelatory. It bares the truth. Things are uncovered. And once you see the truth, you can no longer un-see it. Uranus is sudden and unexpected, and brings opportunities when and where you least expect it. The emerging Jupiter/Saturn sextile is revealing a plan that is about to unfold, and galvanized by this powerful Eclipse, we are being asked to pay attention to that new path. In some way, we are all being asked to take responsibility for the betterment of our own lives, the betterment of our communities and the betterment of humanity as a whole. A stronger sense of responsibility prevails, and we are all being called to honor it. Not just for oneself, but for the greater good.
There will be another Solar Eclipse in February, 2018, at 27º of Aquarius, right on the US Moon, and opposing Trump’s Mars. This 6-month window between these two eclipses could be quite volatile and changeable for the President as well as the country. Pay special close attention to the days between September 1st and September 10th. This is when Mercury and Mars converge and unite exactly on the Eclipse point. Mars will be exactly at this degree on September 3rd, but we should feel it even before that. Mercury is retrograde and appearing to move back through the zodiac. It will slow for its Direct station on September 5th, at this exact same degree. Mercury coming from one direction, Mars from the other. Once again, is the worry that Mars can be combustible and reactive. But it can also bring us the courage to use our voices, begin new initiatives, restore some dignity to the country, and make a new and better beginning.
In honor of the Solar Eclipse, purify, cleanse, and release. Do so before the actual eclipse on Monday. Let go of those things that are preventing you from growing and evolving. You might want to ask yourself about the ways that you compromise and undermine your own talent, self-worth and integrity just to fit in with the group, or not rock the boat. Eclipses are excellent times to release bad habits, negative delusions, anger, pride, resentment and other negative emotions. Breathe out the negativity like black smoke from a chimney, taking with it all delusions, regrets and denial. Then after Monday’s Eclipse, with its inimitable power behind you, sow new seeds and create better conditions for kindness, love, joy and happiness to thrive. Eclipses are turning points, and times of New Beginnings. Therefore may we all be a beacon for the greater good.
