The Darkness before the New Moon

Posted by Lauren on April 20, 2017 at 6:00 PM

April 21st ~ 28th

The deepest story of civilization is the story of separation: belief in the experience of being a separate self in a world of other competing or hostile separate selves that don’t care about you. Many of us have that experience. Anything you do that disrupts this story of separation, anything that gives other people the experience of connection, the experience of generosity, the experience of kindness—changes the conditions that generate ecocide on every level. ~ Charles Eisenstein

Acceptance, Compassion and Understanding. These are the keys to the Saturn/Chiron complex under whose shadow we are currently standing. The Saturn/Chiron square becomes exact on the 30th, which is also when Venus finally leaves their ambit. But as of Friday, Venus is once again exactly square Saturn, and wading in and around the murky waters of the wounded healer, Chiron, in the last degrees of Pisces. Venus has been here all month, dragging her wounds, her fears, her shame, her doubts, behind her like a ball and chain. This is particularly poignant as we move through the dark days before the New Moon next Wednesday, in the Venus sign of Taurus.

Saturn is in the sign of Sagittarius, a sign of faith and understanding. There can be a closed-off bitterness if we feel that our beliefs are being challenged, when Saturn is here. But if we were to truly live up to our beliefs, and the standards of our own ideals and core values, then that sense of divisiveness would begin to gradually dissolve. This means putting our convictions into practice. This means walking the walk as well as talking the talk. Chiron is not only about wounding and pain; it is also about healing. As Venus navigates these icy waters, she’s asking us to build bridges, not burn them; to find points of agreement, instead of being defensive; of sharing and cooperation, not selfishness.

Spring has returned.

The Earth is like a child that knows poems.

~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Taurus is a sign of peace, of tranquility, of verdant green hills, of flowers, and beauty. It is the scent of the flowers that bloom in the Spring, the soft breeze that soothes, the soft rains that nourish. Taurus is a sign of the Earth. And as we move into Taurus season this week, we are being reminded to reconnect with the Grande Dame herself, our Mother the Earth. Earth Day falls on April 22nd.

Earth Day, established in 1970, has had a global impact on environmental awareness and understanding of how intimately we are entwined with the well-being of our planet. Today this global initiative is being challenged by climate change deniers, oil lobbyists, obstructive politicians, rejected policies and a divided public. Despite this, the environmental community has persisted, and the struggle for a cleaner environment and a healthier planet continues unabated. May we all walk the walk this season, for peace, for kindness, for understanding, and for our Mother Earth. Hope to see some of you on April 29th for the People’s Climate Movement in Washington DC. Hail Taurus!

As a human being I acknowledge that my well-being depends on others and caring for others’ well-being is a moral responsibility I take seriously. It is unrealistic to think that the future of humanity can be achieved on the basis of prayer or good wishes alone; what we need is to take action. Therefore, my first commitment is to contribute to human happiness as best I can. ~ H.H. the Dalai Lama

I too will be in Washington DC for the Climate Movement March on April 29th as will many of the people I know. Was in DC for the Women's March this past January and will continue volunteering and participating in demonstrations for human rights as well as other important causes.

I am also a big fan of yours and always find your astrological horoscopes, wisdom and, advice to be wise, helpful and enlightening.

Thanks again for your guidance and insights.

That is so awesome. I'm looking forward to the march on the 29th. Understanding how the climate and the well-being of the planet impacts on so many (class, political, and other) issues across the board, is something that I am passionate about. Thank you for the work that you do! - Lauren
