January 20 ~ 27th
You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive. ~ James Baldwin
Last week Mars was navigating the murky waters of the Saturn/Chiron square. On the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, Mars made a perfect square with Saturn. Obstructions are the hallmarks of a Mars/Saturn square, so are frustration and anger. So is Resist and Defend. This aspect could indeed set the tone for the entire 4-year term of the Presidency. Obstruction, Frustration, Force and Anger. In the mean time everyone is trying to get an idea as to where people stand on core principles and beliefs, and positioning themselves accordingly.
In Saturn/Chiron weather we stand in trepidation and fear of what the future has in store. It may not be as bad as we fear, but it could also be much, much worse. Either way, everyone stands at attention when Mars comes into the picture in this way. At its basest this aspect is accompanied by fears and bigotry. And that sort of fear serves no one well. At its highest we are being challenged to realign ourselves with our own core principles, ethics and beliefs. And it is through conflict with others that our ideals and beliefs are being tested. For if our beliefs and judgments are truly sound, they should be able to stand on their own merit, withstanding any sort of argument or challenge. That was Mars. This coming week it is Venus’s turn.
Tears shed for another person are not a sign of weakness. They are the sign of a pure heart. ~ José N. Harris
At first Venus will invest herself with much needed power before she takes her turn running through the Saturn/Chiron gauntlet. One of the main differences with Venus is that she is currently traveling in Pisces, the sign of her exaltation, which gives her the upper hand. And as she moves into the ambit of Chiron mid-week, with the power of Unconditional Love, Acceptance and Understanding, she transcends pain, fear and despair, and sets the tone for the week. She says, “I feel your pain, I know your pain, and together we can prevail.”
But first she speaks truth to power. Strengthened by a Venus/Pluto sextile over the weekend, the women of the world are marching in solidarity this coming Saturday the Million Woman March taking place in the United States. As many as 200,000 marchers are expected in Washington, DC, while over 600 marches throughout the country, and in countries throughout the world, in Nairobi, in London, in Tokyo, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Vancouver and New Zealand will be marching in solidarity. This is all further supported by Mercury’s sextile to compassionate and inclusive Neptune through the weekend, who conveys the message, “We all feel your pain.”
The Sun entered the sign of Aquarius on Thursday. Now we are moving into the Dark phase of the Moon which precedes the New Moon in Aquarius next Friday the 27th. Through Aquarius we come to realize that by joining with others who share the same ideals, we can accomplish so much more than we could possibly do on our own. Shortly after the New Moon, Mars then moves into action-oriented Aries.
But in the mean time, during this dark phase, we are being asked to assimilate and absorb the events of the preceding months and come to terms with our own priorities and values. Many may be feeling like they are going to have to make some hard choices in the foreseeable future between the better and the dearer, in order to bring their lives more in alignment with those priorities. There could be this feeling of chickens coming home to roost, or some sort of reality check where it comes to either money or love. There is also something prescient here, for these aspects are going to be repeating again in April when Venus stations Direct. Please stay tuned.
