Surprise! The Scorpio Full Moon raked up all sorts of dirt last week, telling us to pay attention to what is going on behind that screen. Scorpio is the sign of the wary detective, and everyone was donning their Deerstalker hats, trying (yet again!), to make sense of the insensible. But it was Mercury’s long stay with unpredictable Uranus that brought all that shock and awe to the news rooms across the country this past week. Now that the Nodes have moved into Leo/Aquarius questions about authority and the abuse of power are likely to be a theme. It has been an interesting week, in an already interesting year. There will be more to come.
What has been building up in the background, is more than just a feeling of righteousness as we stand fixed and bewildered. This coming week, Saturn, retrograde and reflective, will perfect its trine to radical and unpredictable Uranus. Being retrograde, Saturn is showing us how to connect the dots, in order not to repeat history. Uranus is trying to show us how to correct the mistakes of the past, and combined with Saturn, the resolve to bring our lives, and our principles, more in alignment with our highest ideals. Uranus is about freedom, and breaking down traditions. But Saturn is here to remind us, that with freedom, also comes responsibility and consequences.
Keywords for this trine are ‘creative but practical innovations’; ‘constructive new inventions’; ‘a commitment to an alternative path’; and understanding that there may be new and better solutions to achieving our goals. This is a good time to learn a new skill, or learn new technology that will make your life a lot easier. Saturn/Uranus periods are traditionally associated with invention and scientific breakthroughs. But there also are other breakthroughs that can occur now, that have more to do with the evolution of society.
Saturn is what stabilizes us. And in this time of change and uncertainty, Saturn is trying to regain its footing, and that may mean having to readjust goals and strategies in order to do so. It also means to bring our own personal goals and strategies more in alignment with our ideals, especially where it may benefit a greater cause, or greater humanity.
In April of 1959, Martin Luther King, Jr. addressed a youth march for the integration of schools. He congratulated the young people gathered there, and commended them on making history, and what a truly great example they were setting for others. The speech he made that day was deeply inspirational. And it is the last two paragraphs of his speech that day that resonates so strongly with this Saturn/Uranus theme:
As June approaches, with its graduation ceremonies and speeches, a thought suggests itself. You will hear much about careers, security, and prosperity. I will leave the discussion of such matters to your deans, your principals, and your valedictorians. But I do have a graduation thought to pass along to you. Whatever career you may choose for yourself ~ doctor, lawyer, teacher ~ let me propose an avocation to be pursued along with it. Become a dedicated fighter for civil rights.
Make it a central part of your life. It will make you a better doctor, a better lawyer, a better teacher. It will enrich your spirit as nothing else possibly can. It will give you that rare sense of nobility that can only spring from love and selflessly helping your fellow man. Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater Nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.
