October 12th ~ 19th
Mars just entered Sagittarius last week, but he hasn’t had a chance to show his stuff till this week. The story of Mars in Sagittarius is encapsulated in the hero Bellerophon, who began his story as many heroes seem to do, by being forced into exile due to some terrible tragedy. In the course of his adventures while wandering the wide world of exile-ship, he would engage in romantic trysts, commit brave deeds, and embark on adventures of the sort that are the hallmark of the mythic Sagittarian adventurer. The myth he was most known for, was capturing and taming the winged horse Pegasus, with whose help he was then able to slay the multi-genetic-fire-breathing-beast Chimera. The term chimera has come to mean in modern times “an impossible or scary fantasy”. Mars in Sagittarius, the purveyor of truth, is the slayer of impossible and scary fantasies.
No one carries the banner for truth and justice quite like Mars in Sagittarius. Slaying the chimera, Bellerophon reveals hypocrisy, exposes lies, and fights for freedom and rights. In the light of the mendacity being slung in the political arena these days, we can appreciate our warrior astride his winged horse in the arena.
I have been thinking that I would make a proposition to my Republican friends... that if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them. ~ Adlai Stevenson Jr.
One of the dangers of Mars in Sagittarius is becoming quite full of oneself. After Bellerophon slayed the chimera he figured he was due to take his rightful place amongst the Gods themselves. Astride Pegasus he tried to fly to Mt. Olympus, however Zeus was not pleased by this arrogance, and so he sent a gadfly* to bring him back down to size. The gadfly stung Pegasus, who bucked and bridled, causing Bellerophon to fall back down to earth. Pegasus, however, continued on to Olympus without the hero, where our winged equine took his place in Zeus’ stable.
So even as Mars in Sagittarius can inspire many to wave the banner for truth and justice, there will also be those who through their own arrogance are doomed to fall. Mars in Sagittarius, especially with Jupiter retrograde promotes substance and truth, as opposed to arrogance, or an assumption of entitlement and privilege.
In this weather of the New Moon in Libra, the New Moon of moderation, diplomacy, justice as well as debates, it is probably important to defend your right to promote your point of view, but you also have to ask yourself if what you are promoting is based on truth. While Jupiter the ruler of Sagittarius is retrograde, as it will be through next January, moral and ethical issues are often raised, which we then reflect and muddle over. As Mars approaches his trine this week to enlightening Uranus, may we all have the courage to pursue the light of truth and justice.
"There are two sets of principles. They are the principles of power and privilege and the principles of truth and justice. If you pursue truth and justice it will always mean a diminution of power and privilege. If you pursue power and privilege it will always be at the expense of truth and justice." ~ Noam Chomsky
*A gadfly is a person who upsets the status quo by posing upsetting or novel questions, or just being an irritant.
For the week of October 12th thru the 19th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:
Aries is just awesome this week. Kind of like being shot out of a cannon, or better yet, a giant laser beam. You will not easily be contained. You are inspired as well as inspiring, and you don’t care who’s watching or judging. This is a good week to express your individuality, while not being concerned about what others think. You are determined to do things your own way, and well you should. Dare to go off your usual path: embark on an adventure and indulge some of your quirkier impulses and aspirations. Some sort of brilliant realization can ensue.
This will be one of those weeks in which you will be sorely tested to stay within a budget... be aware that there will be plenty to spend on without splurging on unnecessary items. There is a bit of a lovely social thing going on here, and that’s certainly all well and good, provided you just don’t get too carried away in the thrall of it. The New Moon on Monday is good for Taurus establishing alliances in the workplace. It is also really good for attempting to balance your diet, and/or trying to establish a more balanced lifestyle in general.
One of the reasons that you are able to get so much done in your busy work schedule, and are able to focus so acutely, is because you are receiving so much support at home and from family members these days. Make sure to let them know how much this means to you. The home itself, and “hominess” in general will be a source of emotional support and security as some of you are going to be creatively inspired either in the kitchen celebrating a bountiful harvest, or giving vent to your creative urges through other, perhaps practical and useful, even crafty ways.
The New Moon on Monday is good for initiating compromises and reaching out to family members in order to not only create more harmony in your life, but also to establish an emotional support system that will carry you like a bark of salvation. It is also a good Moon for spiffing up the home, or decorating and adding some attractive touches. Some of you could receive some good news this month. Pleasant conversations and excursions with young people will make you smile.
This New Moon that’s coming up, will be helpful in initiating conversations that allow you to arrive at some sort of accord or understanding. If nothing else, you will get a clearer picture of exactly where you stand. But rather than approaching a debate or any potentially contentious situation from an adversarial position, see where you can find points of agreement. Or at least approach the discussion from a position of equality and fairness in the matter. It’s also about seeking moderation, creating peace in your environment, and harmony through speech and thought. New Moon in Libra with Leo? Equals Peace and Love.
With Venus traveling with your ruler Mercury over the next few weeks in your sign of Virgo, this should help to usher in some pleasant days filled with happy thoughts and warm social interactions with others. This is a good time to have that heart to heart with loved ones making it clear how you feel about them. Even with people with whom there have been some recent ‘tensions’, much can be smoothed out by phrasing things in just the right way. It’s all in the presentation. This New Moon in Libra is a good time for Virgo to create a reasonable and balanced financial plan or budget.
With the New Moon in your sign this week, think about what things you would like to see seeded in your life. This is a time of new beginnings, so initiate positive changes that will also help to create more beauty, peace, serenity and spiritual fulfillment in your self and your environment. However, with your ruler, Venus, square Jupiter this week, there will be the temptation to say yes, mostly trying to be nice, when you would really prefer some time alone. There can be too much of a good thing. Just remember that one of the virtues of your sign is the ability to step back and maintain your equilibrium. It’s all about moderation. If you can walk in balance and harmony, good will follows you like your own shadow that never leaves.
The New Moon in Libra is normally an opportunity for Scorpio to instill more peace and harmony in your inner life. See how you can do this while also daring to show a side of yourself that you probably normally keep hidden, whether it be at work, or taking on a physical challenge... or any challenge for that matter. Because you are willing to look at things a little differently this week or stretch yourself just enough beyond your usual comfort zone, you might just surprise yourself along with everyone else at what you are capable of achieving.
You’re on fire this week. Did you see the US vice presidential debate on the 11th? Two guys with Sagittarius Rising just jettisoned on rocket fuel. Increased energy and a strong sense of daring combine to make this something of an interesting week for you guys. The one thing to watch for this week with Venus taunting your ruler is overindulgence. Sometimes when you’re just feeling so good you want to celebrate a little, buy stuff, eat stuff, and buy some more stuff. This is Old King Cole Sagittarius. The New Moon in Libra is a good time to initiate a plan for moderation. Your pocketbook will appreciate it.
The New Moon in Libra is a good opportunity for Capricorn to consider how they wish to be recognized. And what for. Fairness? Equal-mindedness? Capricorns want more than anything to be respected within their community and among their peers. What circumstances in your life will help you to instill self-respect, and help to implement your dreams in a practical way? One thing that the New Moon is good for is consulting experts, finding the right people who can help you to restore some balance and moderation in your life, while still achieving your goals.
As Mars in Sagittarius sidles up to Uranus this week, you are courageous enough to say what you see, and what is on your mind... or in the words of Dr. Seuss: “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you’er than you!” If you have been trying to figure something out, it just might come to you out of the blue, in the guise of a startling discovery this week.. and a good part of that is simply being willing to look at things from your own unique point of view.
Some early degree Pisces people have been floundering under the veil of Neptune, trying to define exactly who they are, especially in relation to what they think other people expect of them. At times this can feel somewhat confusing, as you stand at the Piscean threshold of trying to discover yourself. However, with Saturn, the planet of practical reality now in Scorpio, your role, who you are, is beginning to make a lot more sense. You are coming to terms with who you are, and your understanding of yourself will not only be of benefit this week, but the next several years as well.
