When strangers start acting like neighbors... communities are reinvigorated. ~ Ralph Nader

Today, Venus enters humanitarian, egalitarian Aquarius, while Mars, the planet of action, motive and courage, enters compassionate, musical, seductive PiscesMercury will follow Mars into Pisces later this week, when both Mercury and Mars will also conjunct Neptune (co-ruler of Pisces) in his own sign.  Neptune/Pisces is about conscience, compassion, idealism, music, the arts, inspiration, anything to do with water or liquids or floods, addiction, victimization, sacrifice, charity, social welfare, escapism, alcohol, drugs, enchantment and glamour.  It brings us to the highest rafters of divine inspiration, and also plunges us to our knees in utter humility.

A society that has more justice is a society that needs less charity. ~  Ralph Nader

Consumer advocate, 5 time presidential candidate, humanitarian, environmentalist, and political activist, Pisces, Ralph Nader was born with Venus in Aquarius, and Mercury and Mars in Pisces opposing Neptune.  Very similar to the current astrology we are seeing this week.  He has pretty much devoted his entire life to the various causes he has promoted.  Very persistent in his advocacy, and never shying away from being controversial, his aim is to educate and to literally change the political landscape. Tirelessly promoting his causes, lecturing, writing and advocating, his current articles can be found on his website.  When asked to define himself, Nader responds that he is a “Full-time citizen, the most important office in America for anyone to achieve.”

I never hurt nobody but myself and that’s nobody’s business but my own. ~ Billie Holiday

Billie Holiday began singing the blues when she was only 15 years old, and quickly gained attention as a rare talent, bred on the raw unforgiving experiences of her early life.  She was an Aries, but with 4 planets in Pisces, including Mercury and Mars, as well as the centaur, wounded Chiron, all trine Neptune.  Lady Day was inspired by music, but fatally seduced by the intoxicating world of alcohol and drug addiction.  She helped to define the genre of jazz vocal music with her own soulful and melancholy tone which inspired legions of singers for decades to come.  She also drew attention to racism and injustice with her signature hit, “Strange Fruit”, about the lynching of African Americans.  Constantly hounded by a bevy of inner demons that would not quit, she still managed to rise to legendary stardom, only to finally succumb at the young age of 44 to heart and liver disease in 1959.

Dope never helped anybody sing better or play music better or do anything better.  All dope can do for you is kill you ~ and kill you the long, slow, hard way. ~ Billie Holiday

It is difficult to straddle the world of the divine, the ideal, and make it manifest in this material world without some of the sacrifice, or sense of humility and despair that seeps in and often follows Neptune.  Neptune and Pisces inspire us to consider those among us who have the least, who are disempowered, disenfranchised, the vulnerable, the victimized, or those who suffer from inequality.  They rule transcendence and enlightenment, as well as addiction, mental illness and escapism.  With Neptune currently in Pisces people can get overwhelmed with an increased awareness of suffering, however it also inspires one to relieve that suffering with compassion and healing.  Aquarius is the sign of freedom, invention, the genius, and personal truth at all costs.. no backing down, no compromise.  So let us channel the positive, aspiring, compassionate, poetic and divine qualities of Pisces and Neptune this week, through the auspices of our own personal truth found in Venus and the Sun in altruistic Aquarius.

For the week of February 1st thru the 8th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:

Aries

This is one of those weeks where you will be simply wanting to escape.  Go on retreat. Meditate, incorporate some sort of spiritual practice, open yourself up to what you consider to be divine.  These are positive forms of escape.  Take that time out to connect with that which is most important to you, and you can make some profound insights, unraveling and emerging from the past or the recesses of your subconscious.  With your ruler Mars in Pisces, and meeting first Neptune and then Mercury, this is an opportunity for some profound inner introspection.  However, when it comes to communications, many things would be best kept to yourself for now.  Honesty and clarity are key.  But do try to emerge from the monastic retreat just enough to take advantage of the wonderful Venus/Uranus next week, which could be quite fun in a quirky sort of way for Aries.

Taurus

With your ruler Venus entering altruistic and social Aquarius today, she will now be approaching the inspiring and social Jupiter/Uranus sextile.  This is a week to do those things that you like to do, and that turn you on, that fills you with joy.  Even if it feels somewhat out of character.  You may even make some sudden decisions concerning a financial move, or a business decision, or creative goal that you’ve been ruminating about.  Venus is ‘aligned’ beautifully this week, so take a chance, find your joy, and follow your heart.

Gemini

On Tuesday, your ruler Mercury will enter Pisces.  This is traditionally not one of the best placements for Mercury, as it tends to mental wandering, daydreaming, and has difficulty focusing or concentrating.  It can also be quite self-deceiving.  And as Mercury joins Mars, what one needs to be mindful of, is the tendency to say things that will later be regretted.  Therefore it is just wise to mark one’s words, and be aware of what you say, and who you say it to.  While Mercury in Pisces with Neptune/Mars can be deceptive and difficult, what it is good for is accessing one’s imagination, opening up to spiritual concepts, experiencing things without words, intuitively grasping a situation, and acting from that premise.  Try to channel some of the positive, inspiring and compassionate qualities while avoiding the negative by keeping things real and honest.

Cancer

This can be both an incredibly creative, as well as intuitive week for Cancer.  When it comes to achieving goals, sometimes it’s just fine to follow your heart and see where that takes you.  Instead of trying to buck the system, and rebel, look for ways in which to reach compromises, and gather your supporters.  Sudden insights may be gained in a social situation.  Listen to your heart, and wait for the silence and meaning behind the words. You may find that people do not necessarily agree with your views, and there may be some question of honesty or ethics here... so long as you keep it honest and real, that is what truly counts in the end.

Leo

There may have been a few egos bruised over the past few days.  Now it’s time to just let that stuff go.  With Venus entering one of the most social parts of your chart this week, this is time for you to open your heart... in a big way.  Socialize, go out, meet new people, and gather with the old, near and far.  Look for excitement, you wear it well this week.  Do something unique and extraordinary.  Even relationships with curmudgeons are easily smoothed over now that Venus is harmonizing with the heavens.

Virgo

On Tuesday, your ruler Mercury will enter Pisces.  This is traditionally not one of its strongest placements, as it inclines towards deception, delusions, misinformation, and seeing only what one wants to see.  So it will be something of an unwinding of Ariadne’s thread, in order to arrive at clarity and truth as Mercury first meets Neptune, then Mars.  It will also be a good idea for us all, to pay attention to what we say, and who we say it to this week, for Mercury/Mars can incline one to making regrettable statements that can’t easily be retracted.  What Mercury in Pisces with Neptune is good for is opening up your heart, listening with a compassionate mind, understanding what others are feeling even more than what they are saying.  So channel these wonderfully positive and inspiring qualities and avoid the negative ones by keeping things as real and honest as possible.

Libra

With your ruler Venus entering creative and social Aquarius today, she will now be approaching the wonderful and inspiring Jupiter/Uranus sextile, which can open you up to all sorts of possibilities, if you are so willing.  You may find yourself attracted to unusual people, or wanting to do things that are out of character.  Follow your heart.  When you step out of your usual ways of doing things, it makes you aware of solutions that were not that obvious before.  One caution for Libra: do watch for sensitivities or allergies over the week ahead.  Inflammation or illness may have some other underlying causes.  Avoid alcohol and drugs... and eat wholesome healthful foods.  Your sensitivities will be up with all these planets in Pisces.

Scorpio

If you are looking for a physical outlet, or a new sport think Neptunian: swimming, snorkeling, photography, tai chi, dancing, or perhaps some of that new Zumba?  It’s hard to get motivated when Mars meets Neptune, but these could be fun right now.  When it comes to children or your special loved ones, rather than trying to understand them, try some simple acceptance.  If you are having difficulty drawing them out, just try spending some quiet time with them, a walk in the woods, or maybe get them to participate in some of your Neptunian activities, or a cause that you both feel passionate about.  Mars entering Pisces wants to be pro-active, but most of all needs to be patient.  Another caution: after the 6th, we will all need to mark our words well, lest we say something inappropriate.. patience once again is the remedy and the key.

Sagittarius

This is a wonderfully social week for Sagittarius, as you engage new and old friends, near and far.  Think Big Love, a little bit of excess, a lot of generosity, a kind heart that overflows, and perhaps a little bit of indulgence as well.  These are the sort of aspects that are great for a vacation, but not necessarily good for getting work done!  Enjoy the joy while you can.  After next Wednesday, try to avoid saying things that you will later regret.  Once the words come out of the mouth, it is already too late to shovel it all back in.  Be patient, and mark your words well, and most of all, make sure you have all the facts before you make any assumptions.  All this Pisces energy can be a little tricky that way.

Capricorn

Some Cappies are still recovering from a little ego bruising over the past few days, as are we all with that Sun square Saturn.  This aspect can also be immune depleting, as can Mars/Neptune in Pisces.  Wash hands often!  Probably the most salient caution this week, would be to watch what you say, avoid verbal diarrhea, or things said that will later be regretted.  It’s hard to get motivated when Mars is conjunct Neptune, but what this week is good for is taking up a new study related to Pisces or Neptune: dance, meditation, tai chi, anything with a spiritual bent, magic, reiki, pioneering a cause that you feel passionate about, music, poetry, photography, sailing, swimming(or anything on or near the water) or film. Or maybe just check out some of the local museums this week!  You will be intrigued.

Aquarius

Hello Aquarius.  Whatever burdens you’ve been carrying these past few days... let them go.  There’s no fighting city hall, and unreasonable authorities.  And any way, Venus has come to call.  Any birthdays this week will be celebrated with utter abandon, and some interesting party hats.  No holds are barred when it comes to celebrating, but do be mindful of the paycheck at the end.  Do what you like to do this week, do what turns you on, even if it does raise a few eyebrows in the process.  But who cares?  A sudden decision could be made in a relationship, or get a chance to meet someone new and exciting... follow your heart this week.  Even if it takes you to places you thought you would never go.

Pisces

When Mars meets Neptune in your sign this week, there is a conflict between the Martian desire to be motivated, and do something, and the totally opposite feeling of inertia that occurs when Neptune dissolves everything in its path.  The key is to find the ground where these two meld beautifully: as through dance, compassionate or altruistic actions, or becoming involved in a cause dear to your heart.  There could be an urge to save or rescue someone, and this is fine if it’s done in a consciously motivated way.  Tai chi, water sports, film, poetry competitions, and soulful meditative walks will do as well.  But do avoid alcohol, drugs (and flooded plain areas), for these will be your undoing if indulged in, and will be regrettable later.

This Solstice: Lighting the Hearth Fires

December 21st ~ 28th

O Sun, source of light, love and

power in the universe

Whose radiance illuminates the whole Earth

illuminate also our hearts

That they, too, may do your work.

Sanskrit prayer

At this dark time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, fire has always played an essential part in the lore and symbolism of this time of year.  For without the heat and light of the Sun, nothing would grow, nothing would thrive.. so fire, his terrestrial counterpart, would service the hearths and homes, as a symbolic link to the life-giving essence of the Sun.

Fires would be maintained from Christmas Eve through New Year’s, and never allowed to die out, as a reminder that the Sun would indeed return once again with its attending warmth and light. In astrology, and also reflected in many ancient traditions, the Sun is even more than its light giving properties.  It is the heart of our Solar System and is symbolic of the heart of humanity as well.  Theosophist, Robert Crosbie wrote:

It is the season of the birth of the Sun: the coming back and bringing into fructification those seeds and plants needing Sun energy for their growth and expression-- but, it is more than that, because behind the Sun, as behind every single body, there is spirit, there is life, and there is intelligence.

And with the re-birth of the Sun, comes a whole vital surge of renewal.  And if we were to hitch a ride on that wave, it would give us that much more momentum.  This is the basis from which New Year’s Resolutions probably evolved, recognizing in this temporary shift in the direction of the Sun, a renewal spurred on by a surge of vitality.  And so astrologers always mark these times of year, the ingress to the tropical seasons, as annual indicators of patterns, and weather, and trends to unfold.

This Solstice chart is remarkable in that the Sun is quite closely conjunct the asteroid Juno, the asteroid named for the great Goddess, married to Lord Jupiter himself.  In astrology she is associated with marriage, with fidelity, and is associated with justice and diplomacy... but also has some associations with women’s rights, issues surrounding femininity, inequality and betrayal.  Both are exactly sextile Neptune the planet of mystery, sublimity, sacredness, and the divine.  Will we see the rise of the sacred feminine?  Women’s voices in the arts?  Or a reminder of our roots in our own ancient feminine powers, and our connection to Mother Earth?

Shortly after the sextile to Neptune, the Sun will then engage first Uranus and then Pluto, activating the Uranus/Pluto square of revolutionary change once again.  During these periods of radical transformation, many things that we had been tolerating, ignoring, or hoping would just go away, become intolerable.  This intolerance often occurs after a series of surprising events, that let us know that things are no longer sustainable in their present form.  And that if we don’t initiate constructive and perhaps even radical changes, then things will only continue to only get even worse.  So whether it’s gun violence in the United States, or young girls and women being raped by violent thugs in India, or oppression in all its myriad forms throughout the world, we will be finding these particularly untenable during the tenure of these revolutionary planets.

The other remarkable feature of the Solstice chart is the Jupiter Yod which is exact between the 20th and the 22nd.  The sextile and mutual reception between Saturn and Pluto, the power brokers of our solar system, shows a consolidation, and entrenchment of the (political, financial) powers that be.  Both ends of this sextile strike a disconnect with the third part of this picture, and that is Retrograde Jupiter, uncomfortable and unsure of himself, in the sign of his detriment: Gemini.

Jupiter deals with ethics and morals, and justice, and law.  While retrograde, everyone is invited to investigate their own relationship with these in their own nature, as opposed to being judgmental of other people’s behaviors, or trying to lay blame outside, or look away from the truth, which truly lies within.  “Perhaps if you prayed more, or believed in my God...”  The tendency with Jupiter in Gemini is to look without, and blame others.  But that’s not where the answers and solutions lie, it is within.  But if we do see that those who wield the power, are acting unethically, the question arises: what is the right course of action?

On the day of the Solstice, Venus in Sagittarius, moves to an exact opposition, in the midpoint of the Saturn/Pluto sextile.  And it is somewhere within the symbolism of this Venus that the answers lie.  Venus is the planet of love, and when in the exuberant and generous sign of Jupiter, it is very large love.  The kind of love that encompasses the All.  The kind of spiritual love that embraces all of humanity.  Even the people who don't agree with us.  One of the interpretations of the meaning of the reboot of the Mayan Calendar on the Solstice in 2012, is the gradual evolution to a higher level of consciousness and awareness.  And truly, with social media, the internet, and a growing awareness of ourselves as being One World, One Race of Humanity, with similar goals and investments in this planet, we have a huge opportunity here to grasp this truly amazing concept of Universal Brotherhood, and make it manifest.  Make it something real.  Let us light the hearth fires within this Solstice season.

For the week of December 21st through the 28th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:

Aries

This week, your ruler, Mars, moves from the safe and controlled, and dignified plateau of Capricorn, and straps on the parachute, ready to launch off into Aquarius.  You already have Uranus traveling through your sign, getting your hackles up, filling you with the courage to dare to be you... This just adds more of that element of the individual with a cause, with a vision.  And sometimes this might rankle others, in the process.. but that’s only because they cannot see what has been going on inside of you where you have been gradually peeling away the layers, in order to reveal your true self.  Be your true self Aries.

Taurus

It is wonderful to feel larger than life.  And there are excuses to indulge, kick back, check out, and abandon yourself to indulgence.  The only danger this week is in divesting yourself of your worldly wealth by pursuing Dionysian pleasures wantonly, and as they arise.  Holidays can be very persuasive reasons to let go a little, and to give generously, provided it’s within your bounds.  There are many ways to live large, and with a big heart.

Gemini

This is not a good week to be alone,  (no matter how much you’ve been identifying with Garbo lately) for you are going to be feeling that much larger, that much greater, that much more appreciated, when you are surrounded by the people that you love, and who love you.  It literally makes you feel, well.... larger than life.  However, so will that amazing chocolate yule log confection... one of the drawbacks of having Jupiter traveling in your sign, is the expanding waistline.  It will be hard to say no, when you are in the midst of revelry.  To almost anything.

Cancer

Embrace the spiritual within you as the Solstice unveils aspects of yourself that you may not have been paying enough attention to.  You are being beckoned from within.  Follow where the muse or your intuition guides you.  Allow your heart to open.  However, do be aware of the possibility of an abrupt change of plans around the 25th.  So long as you remain flexible and are able to go with the flow, you’ll be able to negotiate whatever gets tossed your way.  One of the advantages of being in touch with your own higher power is this profound ability to stand back and watch life unfold, rather than getting swept up in it.

Leo

Allow your mind, heart and spirit to soar this Solstice.  There is something magical afoot, whether it be in real life, in the world of your imagination, or through some wonderful mystical experience.  Find that connection, and you will be inspired.  However, do be flexible as we approach the 25th, for there could be an abrupt or unexpected change in plans.  Someone may cancel on you, or it may be hard to make connections.  Sometimes the flexibility is in being able to realize that sometimes it is best to just agree to disagree on some subjects.

Virgo

Home is where the heart is this week.  If you want to entertain, or be entertained, have it come to you, for that is where the merriment is, being surrounded by the people whom you love the most.  If you do need to travel, have it be with a special someone, or to meet loved ones or family with whom you have a connection.  It’s all about the love.  There is something of a festive streak running through this week as well.  See if you can keep up without being too overwhelmed. It may be time for some sort of cleanse by the end of the week.

Libra

This is a good time for Libra to travel, to touch base with loved ones near and far away, both in body and mind.  Sometimes emotions and feelings can feel overwhelming when they are so large, and so encompassing, but this is a time of year to embrace those feelings, and just let them be.  In this case, exaggerated displays of love and affection are on the agenda.  Acquiesce.  Feel the love.  Feel the joy.

Scorpio

You are going to feel a shift this week Scorpio, as your ruler, Mars, moves from a solid and dependable relationship with Saturn, who has been keeping you firm and steady... to Saturn’s other sign, co-sponsored by Uranus, both of which are tenants in the signs of Mars.  This moves you from a place of relative safety and tradition, and familiarity.... and opens your world up to possibility. Those things that you had previously thought impossible, or more difficult to achieve, suddenly seem that much more probable.  Sometimes, all it takes is a shift of consciousness, or a momentary move away from the ordinary, to see what was sitting there all along.

Sagittarius

Hope, faith, and charity are important at this time of year, but this week is mostly about love.  Sometimes in your quest for freedom, or in pursuit of the next adventure, you don’t always pay attention to, or nurture the very relationships that allow you to feel larger than life.  There is nothing more wonderful than having that special someone who truly glorifies you, and lets you believe that you really are magnificent.  Rather than question motives.  Relish the moment.  And share the love right back.

Capricorn

Expect the unexpected when the relatives come to visit over the holidays.  There may be a change of plans when Aunt Ethel decides to drop by unannounced.  See, the thing is, Capricorn is not great with surprises, and they usually have the whole seating arrangement all planned out in advance.  Chances are, Aunt Ethel will be unperturbed, bringing her own jazzy with her.  And she’s likely going to leave just as abruptly as she arrived.  It’s the whole effect of being caught off guard that leaves you feeling like you’re still having to pick up the pieces of your life.  But the food this week, I hear is going to be divine.  Enjoy.

Aquarius

If you’re feeling off kilter this week, it’s probably due to all the disconcerting news that keeps hitting you from left field.  Be flexible, for chances are you’re going to have to be making some change of plans around the 25th.  Or may have to reorient your point of view in order to take in all the new information.  Sometimes it’s a good thing to step outside of your usual routine.  It opens up avenues that you hadn’t noticed before.  But if it’s too much out of your comfort zone, it can also leave you a quivering bowl of anxiety.   Best way to handle whatever comes at you this week, is with diplomacy, generosity, and flexibility.  You will be both loved and applauded for this.

Pisces

If anyone understands altruism, caritas, unconditional love, and devotion, it’s Pisces.  And you are apt to have many people to be sharing that love with this week, as your home and your life seems to be filled with well-wishers, office parties, and family filled with good cheer.  But don’t limit yourself to your immediate circle... feel the love spread out like a wave of light that just radiates across the skies, and throughout the globe.  May this be a very blessed week indeed.

A Jupiter Yod

November 30th ~ December 7th

Miracles: You do not have to look for them.  They are there, 24-7, beaming like radio waves all around you.  Put up the antenna, turn up the volume - snap... crackle... this just in, every person you talk to is a chance to change the world... ~ Hugh Elliott (Standing Room Only)

The planetary picture known as a Yod, takes an otherwise fairly nice sextile aspect between 2 planets (this week it’s Venus sextile Mars), and channels that benign relationship through a third planet which is “quincunx” both of these planets from the other side of the chart.  A Yod is sometimes referred to as the finger of God, for it is said to be associated with miraculous, if not intensely karmic events associated with the planet at the point of the configuration.  In this case we’re talking about Jupiter (retrograde) in the sign of Gemini.

What makes this particular Yod interesting to watch and pay attention to, is that it is setting the stage for a longer-lasting, more politically relevant Jupiter Yod that culminates at the Solstice on December 21st.  In that case, the planets are just beginning to get into position, with Saturn in Scorpio perfecting its sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, while Jupiter retrogrades back to its position of power at the point of the Yod between Saturn and Pluto.  Just this past week, Venus and Mars, had positioned themselves over Saturn and Pluto, channeling a bit of their reconstructive, rebuilding, remodeling and stabilizing energy.

Interestingly, being the finger of God, or any part thereof of the Deity, is a role that Jupiter is rather drawn to: miracles and thunderbolts in tow.  Everything about the royal planet is large, and hence is associated with exaggeration, growth, abundance and extravagance in the material world.   Mars in Capricorn is ambitious and goal oriented.  Venus is also about money.  Jupiter makes these larger.  So there can be some sort of financial windfall afoot (or other lucky breaks) with Jupiter in the mix, but due to Jupiter being retrograde these may be at a price (with questionable ethics involved), and/or delayed in arrival, or over-due to you from past efforts.  Abundance received during Jupiter retrograde should be used wisely and unselfishly, in order to have the most benefit.

First thing that comes to mind with Venus/Mars is desire, sex and passion, but with Mars in ambitious Capricorn, Venus in Scorpio is also about seeking security and support.  If there is an improvement in relationships this week, it’s not just the passion that binds, but also because both parties realize how much they really need each other.  Venus/Mars can also be about “scandals” and “taboo” subjects, in this case flagrantly being broadcast through the air waves by Jupiter opposite Sun in Sag, publicly airing their judgmental opinions.  Nobody loves a good scandal to gossip about as much as Jupiter retrograde in Gemini.  However these are distractions, taking us away from our true Jupiter Retrograde work, which is not to make judgments about other people’s behaviors, but to pay attention to weeding out our own unruly gardens.

Jupiter can of course still bring some material success while retrograde, but the real successes are more internalized at this time, where personal spiritual matters, justice, and ethics take precedence.  As Jupiter makes its opposition to the Sun this week, it will also be at its closest point to the earth (until 2021), making this an excellent time to make a commitment to a spiritual journey, the pursuit of truth and knowledge, or a path of ethical conduct.

A man can have no God that is not bounded by his own human conceptions.  The wider the sweep of his spiritual vision, the mightier will be his deity.  But where can we find a better demonstration of Him than in man himself; in the spiritual and divine powers lying dormant in every human being. ~ H.P. Blavatsky (Isis Unveiled, ii, p.567)

For the week of November 30 thru December 7th, be sure to read your Rising Sign (if you know your time, your rising sign can be calculated on the bottom of the home page) as well:

Aries

I wish you enough sun to keep your day bright no matter how gray the day may appear.  What you see, hear, learn, observe this week, can have the potential to be incredibly enlightening and illuminating.  And inspiring.  The tendency with Jupiter strong is to optimistically take on more than you can handle.  And due to Jupiter’s benevolent optimism, you probably can take on more than usual.  However, by paying attention to both your inner and outer needs, and striking a balance between the two, you can take on even the most challenging of schedules with a passion.

Taurus

I wish you the joy of appreciating all the wonders you already possess.  Under strong Jupiter rays there is a tendency to want more, to spend more, to have more.  If you focus on material gain, you can indeed achieve it.. but then it could also leave you feeling like there’s something missing or wanting.  That’s because what people are also needing more of now is some spiritual balance in their lives.  Taurus as well, if not more.  The key is in being able to balance your material needs as well as your spiritual needs in order to find that fulfillment you are yearning for.

Gemini

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the goodbyes.  Sometimes it just feels like you are jumping through hoops in order to make everyone happy.  Instead focus on what you need to do enough of to make yourself, and maybe that one special person happy.  The rest will follow suit.  There is a tendency when Sun opposes Jupiter, as it will this week, to overdo, overcommit, or be overly ambitious.  As a result it is easy at this time to take on more than one person can handle... temper activity with addressing your inner, spiritual needs as well.  Also, now that Mercury is direct again, expect greater clarity as the week unfolds.  Seeds planted during the retrograde will be finding just the right conditions in which to sprout.

Cancer

I wish you just enough discomfort so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear that much larger.  Sometimes a little discomfort is also necessary in order to be made aware of what needs paying attention to.  We can run and run trying to have enough stuff and security in our lives, that we forget about paying attention to and nurturing our inner needs.  The tendency this week is to grow and expand, but the busyness that goes with that can also be a distraction from ourselves.  One good thing this week, is that some of the mental seed ideas planted during the Mercury retrograde, are going to start emerging over the coming week.  Be open to discovery.

Leo

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.  The key is not so much in networking with others... even though this is very important in the long run... so much as realizing what it is and who it is that you love.  If you really love what you do, and follow that muse, the audience will come.  The key for Leo this week is in following your heart, and finding your bliss.  The rest will follow.

Virgo

I wish you enough success to satisfy your longing.  Normally Jupiter in Gemini will bring benefits in Virgo’s social standing or career, but with his retrograde motion, one step forward often feels like three steps back.  This Jupiter Yod could bring a break, or solve a problem this week that could make many of your efforts worth their while, and maybe even open some doors.  But the real key to success this week, is not so much in your career and goals, as it is in recognizing the importance of home and family.  For this is where your true security, your true foundation lies.  Ideas and thoughts planted back in mid-November, will be blossoming later on this week, that can have the capacity to lead you in a new direction through some sort of realization.

Libra

I wish you enough sun to keep your day bright no matter how gray the day may appear.  Your greatest successes this week are most likely to be those found along and within the context of your own spiritual or inner wisdom journey.  Seek to know, and truths will be revealed.  What you learn this week will help you to confirm that this is the path that you truly wish to embark on, that this is what you truly desire more than anything else.  There may even be a stroke of realization or enlightenment, as knowledge gained, or information shared with you, opens up your perspective and broadens your mind in ways that you had not anticipated.  Be open to possibility.

Scorpio

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.  Many Scorpios are at the threshold of beginning a new life.  And in the process one can pause to reflect: what are those things that you truly desire more than anything else?  And how can you channel that into some sort of lucrative or practical path?  Jupiter’s job this week is to open some doors of possibility.  And even though these may not be implemented right away, there seems to be a great deal of promise afoot.

Sagittarius

I wish you enough hellos to get through the goodbyes.  Every time you think you have things smoothed out in the relationship department, some minor irritation or criticism catches you off guard.  But one thing that may become apparent this week, is how much you really want a relationship to work, and/or how much better off you are with each other than without.  Sometimes we take for granted the very people we need the most, and are the most influential in our lives.  Take at least a moment this week to let that someone special know how much you care.  Our partners are often our best teachers, in improving our own character.

Capricorn

I wish you just enough discomfort so that even the smallest of joys in life appear bigger.  Whether you have a health issue, or not, or are looking to improve yourself in some way, there is a strong mind/body/emotion connection here this week, that can be harnessed in a most beneficial way (provided you don’t overdo it).  You can gain from any or all disciplines that recognize and work holistically in this way: think acupuncture, reiki, meditation, yoga, exercise, massage, tai chi, to only name a few.

Aquarius

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.  Sometimes the greatest happiness comes through the simplest of joys, kindness, affection and hugs.  When Venus is sextile Mars, as it is this week, even the most intellectual of Aquarians will have their hearts melt and their fires kindled by just that right special someone.  Find the right person to stoke those fires with, and we can see some magic happen.  Think salsa... or better yet, a sultry tango... or maybe both at once!

Pisces

I wish you enough support to reach for the stars.  This Yod for Pisces is kind of like Dorothy clicking her ruby slippers and repeating: “There’s no place like home.”  That’s where the magic is this week.  Things will seem to be going your way these days, and as a result you will be tempted to take on more, do more, buy more, embark on an adventure.  But do pay attention to your inner needs as well.  Sometimes we search the world over in order to find what we want, when it was waiting in our own backyard all along.

Time Out as Mercury Stations Direct

August 3rd ~ August 10th

On Tuesday, August 7th, Venus enters the warm protective embrace of Cancer, the sign of home, hearth, mother and country.  On the day after, Mercury will station Direct in the sign of Leo.  For those of us who have just been at the end of our wits with distraction, this news may be anticipated as a welcome relief.  But due to Mercury’s ‘strange’ relationship with Neptune this week, we also find ourselves ‘strangely’ at odds with reality.  Or it may just manifest as an inability to organize one’s thoughts in a useful way.  And being prone to... distraction.  I say there should be a world-wide holiday this week, where we can all soak our feet in the sea, and indulge our minds in feckless daydreaming.  Or try to create sentences in which you can use the word feckless.

Unfortunately, the world does not function this way.  We are all dependent on one another doing their job in order to allow the wheels to turn.  So we cannot take this world holiday.  However, because the following week could be a little demanding, I do suggest taking advantage of the dreamy aspects that prevail, and allow them, when we're not operating heavy machinery, to lull us into this illusion of safe complacency.  This is the quiet before the storm.

With Mercury stationing, there is going to be an unfolding of seed ideas over the next few weeks.  And the reality of a situation will become clarified, with the possibility of remarkable solutions to problems that may have been troubling you.  So it does warrant some paying attention.  Write these ideas down, keep notes, lest they drift off into the ether somewhere.  Then pull up a lawn chair, and ruminate.

Venus in Cancer is an excellent placement for creative or imaginative work or play, especially since the first aspect she makes is a trine to dreamy and idealistic Neptune.  We will see our relationships drifting into a more emotional, protective, nurturing mode as we all wrap our arms about who and what we love and care about.  My gift this week is my favorite love poem by Venus-in-Cancer poet, Pablo Neruda:

..I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.

I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;

so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,

so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,

so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

For the week of August 3rd thru the 10th, be sure to read your rising sign as well:

Aries

Although you may not have the energy to do as much as you would like, and you’re feeling a little scattered as you first enter this week... do as much as you may, but don’t push yourself too hard.  You may just hit a wall if you try too hard.  However, as Venus the planet of love and money enters Cancer this week, make it a point to spend time either at home or with loved ones and family members this week especially.  It could be both magical and special.

Taurus

At first, as your ruler Venus enters Cancer this week, it will be accompanied by a sense of magic and wonder. Home, family, country, heritage will be calling you in some way, and the first calls have to do with a sense of love and being loved.  Indulge yourself, and appreciate the support that loved ones, neighbors and friends can bring this week.  Could be even feeling a little romantic.  Surround yourself with beauty, with peace and serenity.  This is the way that Taurus fortifies herself.  And you’re going to need all the fortification you can muster for later on when this lovely veil lifts.  So enjoy it while you may.

Gemini

Hearing that your ruler, Mercury, is about to station direct will no doubt be welcome news.  Clarity will eventually unfold over the next few weeks.  However don’t expect too much in the mean time.  Neptune prevails like a mystic watcher from above, creating a veil of both confusion and distraction as Mercury adjusts.  Words will only get in the way.  Therefore, seek serenity, peace and stillness in the mean time, letting the busyness and activity of your mind settle down.  You can discuss things later.

Cancer

Venus leaves the chattiness and bustle of Gemini and heads for your domain this week.  Your desire for harmony, for beauty, for grace and pleasance prevails.  This week, pleasure and affection are more enticing than work or obligations.  Allow yourself to drift into a pleasantly cheerful state of distraction.  You will be called back into the fray of reality soon enough.  In the mean time lose yourself in daydream, when you may.

Leo

As Mercury moved back through your sign over the past several weeks, it presented an opportunity for inward reflection, and in so doing, a chance to get reacquainted with yourself.  This has been particularly true over the past week, though it hasn’t always been easy to put into words.  Whatever comes to mind, whatever ideas arise, hold on to these for now.  Let them sit for a bit as Mercury comes around again.  Come the next few weeks, I suspect you’re going to have a lot to say.  We wait with bated breath.

Virgo

Although Mercury, your ruler, stations direct this week, this is still not a week for words.  Rather it is a week for watchful silence and observance from behind the scenes.  Clarity and the ability to make sense of things will arise in due time.  But for the time being, offering too much information can result in gaffes, or misinterpretation as the meaning behind the words gets lost.  And dwelling on the past will not help you with the present.  Rather, this is a week to reconnect with yourself, with that which is spiritual, so seek a peaceful place and wait.

Libra

This week is your opportunity to promote someone or something that is extremely important to you.  Next week you will be coming up against all sorts of forces that are going to be making you feel like you are being pulled in various directions, and that maybe, just maybe, your reputation is at stake.  However, this week is all about creating peace and good will with those at work as well as in the home, even as you kindle some of your imaginative faculties.

Scorpio

If you are feeling blocked and exhausted... perhaps this is a good time to just acknowledge that.  Until Mars, your ruler, enters your sign on the 24th, you’re probably going to continue to feel this sense of frustration, and that stuff is piling up around you with no time or energy to get anything done to the extent that you would like.  There are going to be opportunities to dispose of things that have outlived their usefulness, such as cleaning out the attic or the garage... but even this will be difficult as each item represents something iconic from the past.  Once you get past the weekend, think about creating a plan, and becoming more organized.  When Mars enters Scorpio you’ll appreciate having a goal to aim for.

Sagittarius

As Mercury stations Direct this week in the sign of Leo, you could also find yourself readdressing your belief system... or perhaps how you feel about an issue.  You’re going to have a lot of time to think because things might not pan out quite as well as you had expected.  If you had travel plans before the 8th, then there could be the requisite Mercury retrograde delays or getting lost, or stuff getting misplaced.  Luckily, things can also turn up again when Mercury is direct again.  However, this is a good time to visit some place that you’ve been before, or going back to hit the books in order to study for an exam, or hone up on facts and figures for work.

Capricorn

Capricorn, Gabby Douglas, just won Olympic gold in the all-round women’s gymnast competition this past week.  Through the profound capacity for Pluto to effect transformation, this young lady, at just 16 years old, has not only managed to mold herself into a ‘fierce’ competitor, but she has done so in a uniquely revolutionary manner... the first African American, or woman of color to win all-round gold in this competition.  With 5 planets in Capricorn, she is truly a force of determination to be reckoned with!  Give her a goal, and she will achieve it.  Here’s to the powerful transformative possibility engendered through the auspices of Pluto in Capricorn.

Aquarius

In some ways you may have been feeling like your social life has been kept on hold while Mercury has been retrograde.  Clarity is going to unfold, and many of the ideas seeded over this period are going to reveal themselves over the next few weeks.  In the mean time just allow some of the dust to settle, along with the noise and the commotion in your mind.  This is a time of transition and preparation, and you don’t want to make commitments or say things that you would later regret.  Watch, and observe.

Pisces

Enjoy the peace and serenity this week, as Venus enters the creative and imaginative realm of Cancer and shines on Pisces.  Dreams and beauty surround you.  And this can be to the point of getting lost.  Be lost.  Let your inner voice rise to the occasion, and be blessed by the love you give as well as the love you receive.  It’s a brief reprieve... and perhaps it’s all an illusion... but aren’t vacations, good books, films, and a walk in the park all about indulging those illusions?  Indulge away.
