Weeping Deeply ~ Pluto stations Retrograde

Posted on April 12, 2013 at 9:45 AM Comments comments (0)

April 12th ~ 19th

If you haven’t wept deeply, you haven’t begun to meditate. ~ Pema Chodron

Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld, stations Retrograde today, once again rolling about in his lair.  When Pluto stations, he digs even deeper than he normally does, unearthing that which has been hidden deep down below the surface.  What he discloses are often things that we had buried away in some hole, and covered up, hoping that it would never resurface again.  But these are the very things that need to be dug up, because they weaken the foundation, the infrastructure of our lives, creating sinkholes of despair when they finally collapse.

When Pluto stations retrograde he takes out his shovel, and reveals the decayed and rotten underpinnings of our lives that need tending to: what needs fixing, what we need to purge and remove and divest ourselves of.  It demands honesty, truth, awareness and humility.  And often a little pain.  There may be a habit, an addiction, a tendency, a fear, a compulsion, a way that we automatically react or act out, something that we simply didn’t want to deal with and kept trying to ignore, that undermines our own health, power and effectiveness in the world.  The reason it is important and a good thing to do this psychic and psychological, and sometimes literal housecleaning each year, is that it helps to eliminate all the psychic rubbish that’s blocking our path, undermining our strength, and not allowing us to grow.  Doing this work, literally makes us stronger, and more capable of dealing with the trials and tribulations of life.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. ~  Abraham Lincoln

Pluto is also about our relationship to power: who has the power; how that power is obtained and held; and how we feel about the people who have power, or powerful positions.  How do we feel about owning or having power?  Are we comfortable with it?  Or do we give it away?  And if we are given some power, what do we do with it?

Usually what prevents us from feeling powerful, are our own deeply ingrained wounds, fears, insecurities and dialogues that convince us that we cannot and will not change.  And the idea that we do not have the power to change.  There is a tendency to believe that all of our problems come from without, that if it wasn’t for those other people, or big government, or corporations, then all of our problems would be solved.  And Pluto in Capricorn indeed is symbolic of Big money, power and plutocracy.  But retrograde Pluto begs us to consider the radical possibility that if we were to tend to weeding our own gardens, and discover the underlying treasure that lies dormant there, many of our perceived problems may soon cease to exist.

It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life.  Where you stumble, there lies your treasure.  The very cave you are afraid to enter turns out to be the source of what you are looking for. ~ Joseph Campbell

There are other things hidden deep down in the bowels of the earth that are actually quite valuable to us.  Treasures of unequal beauty and resilience, honed by external pressures and the breadth of time into something inexplicably beautiful, and even magical.  In this context, Pluto is the alchemist, converting lead into gold; carbon into diamonds; experience into revelation; as the phoenix emerges from the fire renewed, reborn and once again transformed.  And so we can meet the alchemist as well when Pluto enters this retrograde phase which lasts through September 21st.

And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. ~ Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist)

On another note, we have some other relevant activity to take note of this week.  Mercury enters Aries, which will find many of our Mercury-ruled Geminis and Virgos more motivated recharged and directed, after Saturday.  Some will even be speaking with a louder, more confident voice, even if they are a little fresh.  Venus enters her own domain of Taurus on Sunday/Monday which will help to either ease or even resolve conflicts, as we seek more pastoral and peaceful climates in which to lick our wounds, and recover from battle fatigue.  At least on some fronts.  But not all... for the Sun and Mars continue to travel in tandem, broiling and agitating, and stirring things up in the sign of Aries, keeping us motivated and inspired to fulfill the intentions seeded in last week’s New Moon.

For the week of April 12th thru the 19th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:

Aries

With Pluto traveling through the sign of Capricorn, motive becomes extremely important.  It always is.  But the karmic consequences of your actions have much more weight when Pluto travels here.  In the Dhammapada it is written: “If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain pursues him, as the wheel of the wagon follows the hoof of the ox that draws it.” However, it is also written that “If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness pursues him like his own shadow that never leaves him.”  The purer your motives, the stronger and more successful you will be.  Realize that you have the reins of your own destiny in your hands, and then have the courage, inspiration and motivation to believe.

Taurus

As your ruler Venus enters your own sign after this weekend, rejoice.  The feeling of having to fight for your space, to compete, to defend yourself, will be easing into the safety and familiarity of peaceful communion, and sharing. Take advantage of the next few weeks while Venus is traveling here to allow yourself to be re-inspired, to regain your footing, and find that peaceful place that has been rather elusive lately.  As Pluto stations today, allow yourself to come to terms with the realization that in some way your world view is shifting.  It is doing so in order to allow room for a new perspective to emerge.

Gemini

From intuitive insight, to impulsive decisions.  From silent reverie, to perhaps speaking too much... As Mercury changes signs this week, it almost feels like you’ve been accumulating all these thoughts, all these ideas and opinions that you’ve been mulling over, and now they all want to come out at once!  In your effort to ‘say’, also make some space in your life to be receptive as well.  Some unexpected insights or revelations can occur by the end of next week that could very much (and perhaps suddenly) change the whole plan, requiring some quick decisions on your part.  In some remarkable and meaningful way, Pluto digging in deep over the next 5 months, is showing Gemini where and how your lives may be transforming.  If necessary, find someone skillful to guide you through the rough and unfamiliar territories as they emerge.  Much can be learned through this process.

Cancer

As Pluto travels through the sign of Capricorn, he is bringing people and events into the lives of Cancers that have the remarkable capacity to change the direction of your life in some sort of deep and transformative way.  But as Pluto travels retrograde over the next 5 months, explore the ways that perhaps you have built up walls that prevent you from relating.  Is there a sense of vulnerability, and fears of being hurt that keep you from trusting?  Or have you allowed yourself to be too open to hurt and betrayal by allowing yourself to be manipulated by the will of others?  Pluto can be pretty deep this way.  But Pluto people not only come into our lives to show us what needs fixing, but also to appreciate our own intrinsic self-worth.  To show us the treasures and gifts we have at our disposal that perhaps we cannot or will not see ourselves, but of which you have so much to offer.

Leo

Leo should be super charged this week, inspired by last week’s New Moon, and the motivation of Mars traveling with the Sun in fiery Aries.  Use that fire to continue to seed ideas.  Follow through on the inspiration that this brings.  You don’t have to have the full road map at this time, you just need to initiate the first steps to set things in motion.  You will know what the next steps are going to be once you get everything moving and rolling along.  As Pluto is retrograde in Capricorn over the next 5 months, honestly explore the mind/body relationship and its effects on your health and well-being.  This may involve some honest self-exploration, as well as some deep tissue work that needs releasing.  Look for some reciprocal relationship between these two.

Virgo

From being afraid to say anything, to speaking out and allowing your voice to be heard.  From reticence, and confusion, to inspiration and assertion.  The shift that Mercury makes this weekend, will be something of a welcome relief for Virgo who needs to emerge re-inspired again.  However, as Mercury makes this shift, do be prepared that things could suddenly be moving quite swiftly, and that there could be an unexpected change of plans by the end of next week.  Be prepared to act quickly and decisively if need be, but also be open to alternatives.  One thing that can come out of this is some sort of revelation as your ruler Mercury swiftly runs into the electric and spontaneously combustible field of Uranus.  At this point it will be quite evident that some sort of change is imminent, and what those changes look like.

Libra

It seems that a lot of your motivation to be productive has been coming through other people lately.  And it’s true that you have been quite inspired by their energy and enthusiasm.  However, as your ruler Venus moves over into Taurus, your urge to seek serenity and peace in the midst of all the commotion becomes something of a welcome respite as the week progresses.   Allow yourself to find that space and peace in the eye of the storm.  Indulge your senses.  As Pluto commences its retrograde journey over the next 5 months, this is an opportunity for you to de-clutter and divest yourself of those things that you no longer need in your home and or personal life and personal relationships that are no longer relevant.  We carry so much baggage with us, that we really don’t need, and may just be making our lives more complicated.  Think in terms of simplicity.

Scorpio

Allow the energy and the inspiration of last week’s New Moon to continue to motivate and energize you throughout the week.  Physically you should be charged.  But as Pluto stations retrograde, mentally you’re going to be embarking on a journey of deep introspection.  Analyzing and making connections where previously there seemed to not be any.  Superficial answers, superficial conversations will not suffice right now.  You want to get directly to the point, getting to the root of things, getting to the truth.  Whatever that means, and whatever that takes.  Be prepared for revelation.

Sagittarius

As Pluto stations in Capricorn today, and begins its 5 month retrograde period, it is time for Sagittarius to explore what are those things that are standing in the way of your own self-worth, and how you value yourself and what you have to offer.  Sometimes we are faced with the daunting task of having to prioritize in order to achieve our goals.  Through this process, as everything is being peeled away, one thing at a time, we finally come fact to face with what is intrinsically important.  What is it that is truly most valuable, most important to you?

Capricorn

As Pluto digs in deep in your sign for the next 5 months, you are going to be reassessing many aspects of your life.  When Pluto digs in your own sign, some conditions in your life may be coming to an end, in order to prepare for the new beginning that is trying to emerge.  It’s literally about reinvention rehabilitation, or rebirthing.  So whether you are simply beginning a new exercise regimen to make you stronger, or are embarking on a new life path... greet your destiny with confidence that whatever work you are doing over the next 5 months, will all be worth it.  Certain skills and strengths and gifts are trying to unveil themselves.  Allow them to be born.

Aquarius

Pluto understands better than anyone, that those unseen things that trip us up are more insidious than even our external challenges.  Pluto almost ruthlessly unveils that which we would rather not see, or have to contend with.  Secrets are unveiled.  Events from the past reemerge.  And we go through the humiliating experience of cleaning out the tendencies, dependencies, and cobwebs from our psyches, that are holding us back and preventing us from growing.  We are being purified of the experiences that we no longer need in our lives.  When the lesson is learned the necessity ceases.  Think of the next 5 months as an opportunity to unload all this baggage you have been carrying!

Pisces

Any fears of not being accepted by, or being believed by the group will be challenged as Pluto stations in the sign of Capricorn.  Some Pisceans will feel like the town crier, the truth teller, declaring that the Emperor has no clothes.  What you don’t want to do is to hitch your wagon to a particular group that may help you to achieve your goals, but might be at the expense of your own integrity or values!  On the other hand, with Pluto retrograde here, joining forces with others, or through a group experience can also help to face your own fears or wounds, and transform them in a positive way.  Think mindfulness stress reduction, 12 step programs, or spiritually motivated therapeutic groups with whom you share similar ideals and values.

Getting Ready: Preparedness

Posted on March 1, 2013 at 9:00 AM Comments comments (2)

March 1st ~ 8th

A prepared citizen is someone who understands how to take care of himself... who has amassed the necessary items, who has a plan. ~ Dr. Irwin Redlener (Director of the National center for Disaster Preparedness, Columbia University)

After Hurricane Sandy, the “Prepper” movement gained a lot of steam here in New York.   Preppers are people who want to be ready in the event of the collapse of the unreliable infrastructure: the specter of economic disaster; peak oil; major disasters, natural or otherwise; terrorist attacks; or errant asteroids crashing into the earth.  The apocalypse.  This is so Saturn in Scorpio, which totally relates to survival and living off the grid.  And even more so: Saturn in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn which is about being thrown back on your own resources, being able to make it on only the bare, sometimes primitive and limited essentials, and planning for the hard times ahead, whether or not those hard times ever come.  In Saturn in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn weather, we are all Preppers in some way or another.

On March 7-8th, Saturn, which is currently retrograde and looking back, will return to make another friendly pass with Pluto perfecting their sextile to one another.  They are traveling in each others’ signs, which only makes this meeting all that much more powerful.  Meanwhile, this week Sun, retrograde Mercury and Venus, all traveling in the sign of Pisces, will be joining this picture, drawing most of the zodiac, that means just about everyone with them, into Prepper Mode.  It seems we are all looking at a future which at this point seems both unstable and unsustainable, and wondering what on earth we should, or can do about it.  If anything.

Retreat is merely a preparation for overcoming the obstructions.  This requires the will to persevere just when one apparently must do something that leads away from his goal.  This unswerving inner purpose brings good fortune in the end. ~ The I Ching

With Saturn retrograde, and Mercury as well in the Pisces sign of endings, and tying up loose ends, this is not quite yet a time for initiating action.  In fact it could feel a bit like we’ve taken a step back.  It is a time for getting ready.  In our quest to make ourselves and the world a safer place, a more secure place, questions about insurance, about saving for a rainy future, about simplifying our lives come up.  And we are probably being shown where that work needs to be done right now.  Saturn retrograde is about going back to refortify, to rehabilitate,  re-strengthen, to shore up, rebuild the infrastructures of our lives, rebuild ourselves, so that we will be ready... when the time comes.  Whatever, and whenever that time will be.

Finish each day and be done with it.  You have done what you could.  Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can.  Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and severely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with our old nonsense. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

We have made it through the first week of Mercury retrograde in Pisces, often the most frustrating part of the cycle.  This week, on Monday, the Sun and Mercury will meet for their inferior conjunction, marking the mid-part of the retrograde cycle which lasts until March 17th, and the rebirth of the Mercury cycle as a whole.  This is the point when the Sun, Mercury and the Earth are lined up in such a way that Mercury is at its closest point to the Earth.  This week Mercury is invisible to the naked eye because it is too close to the Sun to be seen from our perspective, but when it becomes visible again, it will emerge as a morning star.  This is probably the most introspective phase of the Mercury Retrograde period, when Mercury speaks to us in whispers, flashes of divine inspiration, and realizations that may not actually manifest until Mercury is direct again.  It is a time when we would benefit most from silent meditation, introspection and reflection.

For the week of March 1st thru the 8th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:

Aries

Aries is a person of action, so it is hard not to want to ‘do’ something.  Just realize that this week is still a little premature.  It is a good week to tie up loose ends, to finish up things so that you will be prepared later on.  For what it’s worth the incentive to initiate anything will be just about nil any way.  As it really should be with all this Pisces weather.  This is an excellent week for spiritual activities, restrospective reflection, for paying attention to your inner voice and feelings, for dreaming, for doing research, getting the information you will need when you can take action later on.  But right now things are just still too unknowable and still shifting, so until you have all the facts it is probably best to wait.

Taurus

It is possible that you could hear from someone from the past, an old friend, that you probably haven’t heard from in ages.  Or some experience, conversation or memory surfaces that reminds you of that person.  In a kind and loving way.  Don’t be afraid to give them a call if it’s possible, they’ve probably been thinking about you as well.  This is a good week for rekindling old connections.  Although this is not the best time to be making any financial decisions, thanks to Mercury retrograde, it is a good time to gather information, and do all the research.  Just remember, that often what seems like a splendid idea while Mercury is retrograde will have its errors revealed later on, when Mercury is direct again.

Gemini

For the most part, despite your ruler Mercury being all tricky and misbehaving, this is ironically a good week for communications.  At least until the 7th, when things go back to being confusing and communications, appointments and connections getting all crossed again.  What makes this week different, is that Mercury is falling back into the arms of loving Venus, who is quite pleased to be visiting you in Pisces Fantasyland.  It will be a pleasant departure and distraction from any craziness going on.  However, do take note, in fact lots of notes, that things could get a little confusing later on.  It will be much easier to overlook important details from the 7th on, as well as misunderstandings to occur.  Therefore do your own little preparedness in the mean time.

Cancer

If you wanted to reconnect with someone from the past.  Someone that you used to know.  Then this could be one of those weeks in which to do so.  Old flames may return and even be rekindled.  It may only be in the realm of the imagination, or secretly playing out in your imagination, but there is something compelling about the past, and past relationships that seems to draw you there.  Just remember that there are certain confidences that should only be shared with people with whom you can truly trust.  This can also be a very constructive week for Cancer.  Particularly Saturday and Wednesday, which are days which beg you to look at your life and circumstances with a much more realistic perspective.

Leo

Traditionally this would normally not be a good time to borrow or lend money with Mercury all retrograde.  Curiously, however, if you want to give away money, it will probably come back to you later, but if you lend money to someone, it’s less likely that you will ever see it again.  By the same weird retrograde logic, money that was lost or lent in the past, might just reappear again during this time.  So one can only hope.  As Sun comes to meet Mercury this Monday, do also allow that secrets, like lost objects, can also be unveiled.  Just be careful of who you share your confidences with (make sure that these are people you can trust), and what you share... there are some things that are best kept to yourself.  Even if they are utterly fascinating.  This weekend could prove to be very constructive in getting any rehabilitative or reconstructive work done.

Virgo

It is probably wise to realize that what you are being told, and what you are feeling, are two different things.  However, on the other hand, there’s something to be said for taking things one day at a time.  And if positive connections are being made with someone from the past, or with anyone for that matter, think of it as a gift.  But do be aware that wires are more likely to get crossed, communications to break down as the week progresses.  It could get a little confusing, especially from the 7th on.  Therefore keep things simple, and try not to over-commit.  It will feel like you have enough distractions and things on your plate to deal with as it is the end of next week.

Libra

The week begins on a positive note, in that you have a certain self-discipline and determination to follow through with a plan, either at work, or with a health regimen or routine.  The purpose of which is rebuilding, making yourself stronger in some way, or rehabilitation.  There may be the urge to eliminate that which is no longer working, and focus on rebuilding a firmer, more reliable foundation, routine, diet, that is better for you and your constitution.  When Venus meets Mercury, albeit retrograde, some realizations could be made.  Perhaps about something from the past that could be helpful right now.

Scorpio

This week is all about getting ready, and making yourself prepared.  Even with Saturn retrograde in your sign it endows, perhaps even more so, insight, and realizing new ways of achieving your goals, or of organizing your environment in such a way that you can be more effective in the long run.  For the next few months you are working on instilling the positive qualities of Saturn, such as patience, self-discipline, and concentration.  And even with Mercury retrograde, perhaps even because of it, you will be able to make some positive strides this week.  With this bevy of planets in Pisces, be open to creative and perhaps alternative solutions or ways of looking at a problem.  Sometimes we look so closely at one particular thing, we miss some of the other possibilities in our midst.

Sagittarius

It can be inspiring to dream, so long as you can separate fantasy from reality, especially when it comes to wistful dreams of the future within the home and family.  One of the keys to finding healing in your life is realizing that you don’t have all the facts yet, and that you may be missing some very crucial information.  It’s too easy to jump the gun, or make assumptions when you haven’t been given all the information that you need.  Granted it’s the ‘not knowing what the future will bring‘ part that makes one anxious.  But there’s a learning curve here, if you are willing to suspend judgment and just listen, to make sure you are on the same page with others.

Capricorn

If you truly wish to change your life, reform a habit, rehabilitate, renovate, or do a health or physical make-over.. this would be the time to do it, or at least work on it.  As Sun, Mercury and Venus sidle up to the Saturn/Pluto sextile, Capricorn can really benefit from this powerful energy.  So make your lists, clarify your goals, and explore what you need to do to facilitate these.  Do the research.  Create a plan that you can live with.  Be prepared for future opportunities.  Commitments made through the door of your ruler Saturn, joining forces with Pluto have a greater chance of not only achievement, but for longevity and reaping rewards in the long run.

Aquarius

This is an excellent week for Aquarius to challenge a habit, or to transform your accustomed way of looking at the world.  Something is gradually unfolding both within you and without you if you will allow it to do so.  It’s nothing less than the capacity to eventually take your life and your destiny into your own hands.  But first you have to take care of some necessary details, and part of that is believing that you are capable of doing so.   Also, open yourself up to the possibility of receiving as well as giving.  If you step out of the way, that wonderful flowing cycle that allows the energy to renew itself may also bring some well-earned benefits flowing along  in your direction.  You never know what’s going to float in once you open up the door.

Pisces

With all of these luminaries, planets and other celestial bodies traveling in your world this week, it could be that you are the only one who really understands what is going on.  The rest of us are like visitors from another world trying to understand your customs and decipher your language.  And we are all waiting with bated breath for you to translate in your own voice, from your own language to ours, in only the most poetic and meaningful words, what this is all about.  If you don’t want to share, that is all right too, for this is one of the most introspective periods, when silence is golden, because it allows you to listen to that still small voice arising from the deeper levels of consciousness.  It is this voice that seems to have it all make sense.

Saturn sextile Pluto: Resolve

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 9:00 AM Comments comments (0)

January 4th ~ 11th

There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul. ~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox

When Saturn, the planet of leadership, strength and determination, meets Pluto, the planet of power and control, we have a window of opportunity in early 2013 to make long lasting changes in our lives.  The kind that make sense.  The kind that work.  Change is rarely easy.  It often also means letting go of some things that you’ve been accustomed to having in your life.  And sometimes it means having to work against outside conservative forces that would just prefer to see things stay the same and never ever change.  Pluto can represent those deeply ingrained habits, fears or wounds in our lives that have tendrils and roots that cling for dear life.  Until they meet relentless Saturn.

The challenges of change are always hard.  It is important that we begin to unpack those challenges that confront this nation and realize that we each have a role that requires us to change and become more responsible for shaping our own future. ~ Hillary Clinton

Saturn/Pluto is the story of the commitment to reform something.  How fitting that Saturn and Pluto should join forces (they are not only sextile but in ‘mutual reception’), now at the New Year, when all those ‘resolutions’ we are supposedly making are being bandied about.  Usually these are done half-heartedly, and as a passing whim.  However, if you truly wish to reform a habit, transform a part of your life, rehabilitate, renovate, do a health or physical make-over... this would be the time to do it!   As Mercury sidles up to Pluto this weekend make your list, clarify your goals, and explore what you need to do to facilitate these.  Do the research.  Create a plan that you can live with. And try not to get side-tracked this week as Mars puts in his two cents.

Determination gives you the resolve to keep going in spite of the roadblocks that lay before you. ~ Denis Waitley

Commitments made the first 3 months of this year have a greater chance for longevity because of this Saturn/Pluto relationship.  We’re talking long term here.  So even if you encounter a roadblock this week, or question your own resolve, don’t give up!  When Mars meets Saturn, as it will after the weekend, we would be wise to tread carefully, and not allow our inner fears, demons, and self-doubts dissuade us.  There may be temporary stumbling blocks in our path.  Think of them as speed bumps.  Reminders to pace ourselves, reserve our strength, and to use the force wisely.

Powerful Scorpio, Hillary Clinton, has Mars, Saturn and Pluto all in Leo in her birth chart.   Recently named Most Admired Woman in the Gallup Poll for the 17th time, if anyone knows about resolve, determination and fortitude it is our Mme. Secretary who has clocked in more travel miles than any other Secretary of State in US history.  She has traveled to 112 countries during her tenure, and although staff and press half her age have had trouble keeping up with her, the schedule has only just finally taken its toll after 4 years of relentless activity.  Hence the admonition to pace yourself.  Mars, Saturn, Pluto just wants to keep going and going.  No one can dispute that hers is a character of indomitable strength.  And it is already reported that she plans to be back at work within only days of having been recently hospitalized.  May we only channel a portion of this Clintonian single pointed resolve and determination, and it will take us far.

“It’s as if she has become, literally, the ship of state.  She stands for maturity, tenacity, and self-discipline at a time when everyone else in Washington seems to be, in more senses than one, going off a cliff...” ~ Tina Brown

Hint to astro watchers: Boost your resolutions. Commitments and resolutions being made at the New Year can be doubly reinforced on the New Moon in Capricorn on the 11th: the New Moon of the New Year!

Woodie Guthrie’s resolutions for 1942

For the week of January 4th thru the 11th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:

Aries

This is a good time to initiate goals and promises that you have made to yourself... there’s lots of energy as this week commences.  Just be aware that when your ruler Mars comes head to head with Saturn after the weekend there are bound to be some challenges.  One thing to realize that even if it appears that obstacles are coming from outside, by people or circumstances blocking your progress, instead of attacking the obstacle, look within.  The only one who can prevent you from asserting yourself in an effective manner, is you, and your belief in yourself and what you are trying to achieve.  Keep that vision before you.

Taurus

On Tuesday, when your ruler Venus moves into traditional and loyal Capricorn, allow yourself to find opportunities to take part in a cause; to share music with friends; to spend meaningful time lending your ear, or bending the ear of a good friend... or find some other way to take yourself back to the heart, out into nature, or transcending life and love in some remarkable way.  By week’s end, be ready for a little excitement and perhaps even a change of view.  A little flexibility and open mindedness will be called for.

Gemini

This is probably not a week of light-hearted conversations.  Things could even get pretty intense, as even the most difficult of topics can not be avoided when your ruler Mercury meets Pluto.  The thing is, there are also solutions to be found.  Realizing this, do not rest, look under every rock, pursue every avenue, until you get the answers that you seek.  This is a tremendous week to pursue a goal, or focus on a particular project.  Ignore distraction, and apply the single pointed focus and concentration that this Mercury can bring.  Such will and determination can overcome even the most formidable of challenges.

Cancer

Like bookends, the Moon begins the week with a conjunction to Saturn on Sunday, and ends the week with a conjunction to Pluto on Thursday, tying together the resolve and determination of the Saturn/Pluto sextile.  Cancer, Woody Guthrie’s resolutions read like a list of helpful reminders to himself... but they are also indicative of what really mattered to him (“keep hoping machine running”).  Explore those things that matter most to you, make your own list of priorities, then resolve to pursue those things, people, and goals that ultimately, will bring you the most happiness.

Leo

Do not allow yourself to be dissuaded from your goals or from your purpose this week.  There will always be those naysayers and individuals who can more easily push your buttons, or some how make you feel intimidated.  If you find that you are being put in a position in which you have to either confront over-bearing and aggressive people that some how manage to make you feel inadequate or unable to express yourself... don’t engage them.  You’ll just get all frustrated.  Take these people with a grain of salt, and realize that you’re going to have to rely on your own inner resources for now.  Retreat does not mean that you are giving up.  It just means that you are waiting for a more propitious time to make your advance.

Virgo

Recent changes may have you waiting for the next shoe to fall.  However, this week you’ve got it all under control.  The ball is in your court, and it’s up to you as to what you want to do with it.  Keep making mental notes about your future.  This is a good week to create a plan or a road map for the future.  Be sure to include those things that you are truly passionate about, and will make you happy.  If you have an invested interest in your goals, then you can almost insure a long-term commitment.

Libra

On Tuesday, your ruler Venus moves into the sign of Capricorn, which will find you progressively more interested in spending time at home, if it can be at all arranged.  Of course, others may not always be on the same page,  especially later on in the week, but at least you can find ways to logistically fulfill obligations, while also tending to your own emotional needs this week.  This is also a time of year for new beginnings for Libra... see how you can incorporate resolutions/ideals/a new health regimen into your daily schedule, in a way that is both meaningful, fulfilling and practical.

Scorpio

This week Mercury is activating the Saturn/Pluto sextile that is so very relevant to Scorpio in particular.  As Saturn and Pluto dig up and starkly unveil the rusty underpinnings of your life that are no longer working, they are also revealing that there are solutions.  Practical, realistic solutions, that can not only help to heal, rehabilitate and renew, but perhaps solve some mysteries along the way.  If you want a question that has been plaguing you answered, now is the time to ask, do the research and investigate.  If you need to initiate changes this week, do so slowly and deliberately, otherwise you will be beset with obstacles.  One needs to adjust to change gradually.

Sagittarius

Optimism and good faith will carry you straight through the weekend, so take advantage of it while you may.  Sagittarius will be energized and willing to tackle just about any challenge.  And this is despite the fact that not everyone is going to be on the same page, which will only become apparent later in the week.  Believing in yourself and what you do will carry you pretty far, but after the weekend expect some unforeseen obstacles and stalwart naysayers that will require a bit of patience to maneuver around.

Capricorn

As Mercury comes to Pluto in your sign this week, you have the opportunity to setting and seeing a goal through to completion.  If you want to make something happen in your life, or commit to some sort of change, make-over, or desire to attack some habit... this is the week to do it.  Set your goal, eliminate any external distractions and put your nose to the grindstone. Also pay attention to your long term goals for the year.  Seeds planted early this year have a greater likelihood of having longevity and reaping rewards in the long run.  It will be worth your efforts.

Aquarius

Having Mars traveling through your sign these days can be something of a mixed blessing.  Positively it bestows plenty of energy, optimism and initiative.  This will be particularly true this weekend when you will just be brimming over with enthusiasm and good will.  However, that same enthusiasm can be perceived as threatening by those who want to maintain the status quo, or be in charge.  Sometimes people can test your last nerve.  If you meet an obstacle of any sort this week, remember patience grasshopper, patience.

Pisces

When Venus enters traditional and loyal Capricorn this Tuesday, she will be shining on Pisces ruler Neptune for the duration of the week.  This is the stuff of which dreams are made.  Whether it’s a mystic love reemerging from the past; gathering with friends to play music together; or to visit an art museum; or being hired to lead a meditation circle or participate in a poetry reading... see how you can make art/dreams/hopes/aspirations a closer and more meaningful reality in your life this week.

Janus ~ the Two-Faced God

December 28th ~ January 4th

These two: Light and Darkness,

Are the World’s Eternal Ways.

~The Eternal Verities

The Full Moon phase begins today, on the 28th, while the Sun is approaching its conjunction to Pluto (endings, transformations, deaths, births and transitions) just after making its square to Uranus (unexpected detours/changes of plans/events) on Christmas Day.  In so doing, the Sun is activating the Uranus/Pluto square of change and inevitable transformation.  And so we pass from one phase of life, through the doorway into the next year, while leaving behind the remnants of what once was.

The Full Moon at this time of year is in the sign of Cancer, with its opposition to the Sun in Capricorn. Cancer is the sign of home, family, country, nostalgia, and the past.  It is associated with our culture, our people, who raised us, and who we are most familiar with.  By contrast, the sign Capricorn, is about respect, reputation, adulthood, achievement, taking responsibility, and tradition.  Whereas Capricorn is associated with maturity and old age, Cancer is associated with childhood, nurturing and dependence.  The Cancer Full Moon typically arrives at the end of the Old Year or the beginning of the New Year, weaving together these elements of past and future, endings and beginnings.

In Roman mythology, Janus, the two-faced god is the god of beginnings, endings, transition and time.  He is portrayed with two faces, where one face looks to the future, while the other looks to the past.  He presided over doorways and the gates of the city.  Being the god of time, he also presided over the New Year, and so it was that the month of January is named for this god.

"Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world. The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same. Every wonderful sight will vanish. Every sweet word will fade, ...The source they come from is eternal, growing, branching out, giving new life and new joy... The source is within you. And this whole world is springing up from it" ~ Rumi

The Full Moon is a time of disclosure, of climax, of crisis.  Pluto is the power of transformation through healing, through rebuilding, through rebirth.  Pluto will often reveal the wounds that need to be healed, our fears that block us, our compulsions that drive us blindly.  Through the rays of the Full Moon, not only are these once hidden wounds/fears/compulsions being made evident, but so are the means to heal them.

Facing Pluto can be challenging work, and yet it can also be incredibly freeing and purifying.  It requires both courage and honesty to walk through his gates.  Wounds that have been ignored up until this time may just reach their crisis point now.  Take whatever steps are required to allow healing to occur in your life.  Seek help if necessary.  Find the healer/midwife/therapist/counselor who will lead you through the gates of Janus to healing, self-transformation and rebuilding.

Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn, which is currently exactly sextile both the Sun and Pluto.  Saturn as Chronos symbolizes the flow of time in both its positive and constructive, as well as deteriorating and declining effects.  At the end of the year, symbolized by Old Father Time, we are reminded that all things reach their point of inevitable exhaustion due to age.  But in keeping with the Pluto/Saturn in Scorpio symbolism, every ending is followed inevitably by a new birth, a new beginning.  Also symbolized by Saturn is that through time, we gain wisdom from experience.

Father Time is often portrayed with a scythe, which is symbolic of the harvest of wisdom and experience we have reaped over the previous year, while also of clearing the field for the New Year’s seeds yet to be planted.   So, like Janus, we are looking back to reflect on the year that was, while also looking forward to the year that will be While under the aegis of Pluto, we'll also be taking into consideration what steps we need to take in order to heal our wounds, heal others, and rebuild a better, and more sound body, mind or foundation for the future.

For the week of December 28th through January 4th, be sure to read your Rising Sign as well:

Aries

Have the courage to be exactly who you are without apology, even if it does raise a few eyebrows.  With Uranus traveling through your sign these days, it has been all about you being comfortable in your own skin, and being willing to step outside the bounds of your own conventions.  Rather than trying to fit into some sort of cookie cutter design, your job is to break new ground.  Even if it appears that you are being something of a rebel in doing so.  You are redefining both who you are and what dreams may be.  Set your resolutions accordingly.

Taurus

As Pluto has been traveling through the sign of Capricorn these past several years, it has been drawing you to realize that perhaps your previously held ideas about the world may no longer be valid.  This Full Moon may help to illuminate that reality.  See how previously held judgments may be keeping you from fully engaging with others.  Or how assumptions are limiting your point of view.  A truth may be revealed this week, that can be both startling and/or fascinating.  See where it leads you.

Gemini

This is a good week to go within.  You will find that thoughts and conversations are bound to be more profound than usual, as you are being brought to a deeper realm, where subjects that are usually avoided are being engaged, and wounds that are usually feared, are being cleansed and healed.  Allow your intuition to guide you earlier in the week.  Later, after the 1st, remain flexible, for there may be an abrupt change in plans.  Leaving your options open, will allow you to negotiate even the most unexpected of possibilities.

Cancer

Through the Cancer Full Moon you are being given the opportunity to realize how even though it often feels like change is being forced upon you... the people or circumstances that precipitate these changes, are really arising from within.  It’s really your own stuff, and less about the other person’s stuff.  The Dalai Lama has said, that if you want to create world peace, then you have to first create peace within.  If you want to heal your relationships with others, you need to first forgive and heal yourself.  Ask yourself in the light of this Full Moon: What is your own relationship to power, and to those that you perceive to have the power?  What is it that you need to rebuild your own sense of self and confidence?  You are far more powerful than you realize, Cancer.

Leo

This Full Moon has a very strong mind/body connection.  See how a physical ailment, habit, or perhaps even a bad diet is interfering with not only your physical well-being, but your mental serenity.  And vice versa.  See how pent up emotions or old wounds are clogging up the channels or creating knots in your body that need to be released.  Rolfing or deep tissue massage either literally or figuratively might be in order.  Allow the natural channels within your own body to flow in order to heal itself.  Once you have cleared out all the channels, then you can commence with the rebuilding.

Virgo

Follow your intuition the first few days of this week, and allow it to help you to navigate your relationships with others, which at times, may feel unfathomable.  Through your relationships you are coming to realize the need to make deep connections with others.  And exactly how that is done.  Sometimes it helps to unravel complicated issues surround power and control, then forgiving yourself as well as others as you release pain and fear through the divine process of release and purification.  Sometimes it is just very helpful to let go and let God.  There may be a sudden shift of plans or an unexpected event after New Year’s.  Therefore allow some flexibility.

Libra

This Full Moon could bring to light any conflicts between the demands of your career, and or public life, and loyalty to, or the needs of your home and family.  Libra is all about establishing balance, and if one of these areas outweigh the other, this will become apparent right now, especially if a personal crisis requires your immediate attention.   Pluto has a way of dredging things up from the past.  And like Janus, see what you need to purge and release, and what valuable lessons can be retained, in order to be able to look forward to the New Year with an open heart.

Scorpio

This is a powerful Full Moon of transition and self-transformation.  It is nothing less than re-writing your own book.  Part of that process is in realizing what is no longer working in your life, and being willing to let that go, in order to clear the field for what may be.  See what is being revealed in the light of this Full Moon.  Deep inner realizations and insights into who you are: what inspires and motivates you, what you believe; will have the capacity to transform your point of view in some sort of remarkable way.  Begin writing the first chapter of your new book.

Sagittarius

With the Full Moon in Cancer one of the things that is being revealed to you is your responsibility to others... how much you need to do physically and emotionally for them, and figuring out what belongs to who and what is being shared.  Often we feel that we cannot survive without certain resources/possessions which can create fear about sharing.  See what you need to do to unblock the channels of reciprocity, and reopen the flow of generosity that Sagittarius is so well known for.  Greet the New Year with both energy and optimism.  You are likely to be getting a flying start on any New Year’s resolutions.  Any new start, any seeds planted at the New Year are being given that much more energy and impulse to succeed.  So make your resolutions positive and make them well.

Capricorn

This Full Moon is shedding light on those things that need to be released, relinquished or changed in order to be able to grow, evolve and embrace both your expectations of yourself as well as of others.  With Pluto traveling through your sign there will be junctures when it will feel particularly relevant to reinvent yourself, or your life in some sort of significant way: your appearance, your goals, your relationship, your dreams.  And although Pluto may be unforgiving in its requisite self-honesty, out of the ashes of the past, a new chance for a new beginning, with any number of possibilities, can arise.  Look forward, while honoring and gathering the fruits of your experiences from the past year.

Aquarius

With Mars, the planet of initiative and energy having just recently entered your sign, you should be feeling some of its benefits this week, as he gathers the electric energy from your co-ruler Uranus and wirelessly transmits it to enthusiastic Jupiter.  This is not a week for Aquarius to be brooding in a dark cave, no matter what wounds need to be licked and healed.  Take a venture outside of your usual routine, and see what possibilities may unexpectedly and delightedly unfold.  Also, be prepared for a Plan B after the 1st, as unforeseen changes in plans could catch you off guard.

Pisces

It may become apparent how a friend may need some assistance over the New Year.  Trust your intuition to guide you.  In the words of coach Phil Jackson: “You have to trust your inner knowing.  If you have a clear mind and an open heart, you won’t have to search for direction.  Direction will come to you.”  Feel your spirit as well as your energy lifting as the week unfolds.  Send your resolutions out on the wings of possibility.
